The Czech Republic really has a rich Metal underground scene which is proofed by the existence
of bands like Krabathor or Dissolving Of Prodigy which already got reviewed on our homepage.
Recently I came in contact with the second tape of Promises, a far less extreme band than those
just named before. After the intro, the opener 'Queen Of Prophets' is a classic melodic and
fast played Metal tune. There is also a recognisable parallel between Promises' singer and James
Hetfield and I won't consider this as a negative point. Other songs like for example 'All Is Gone'
show that more quiet mid-tempo songs also belong to Promises' repertoire. Listening to these songs
from the year 1998, it's difficult to believe that they started as a Gothic band called Gothic
Darkness (what a cliché name). Although Promises also have contributed a track to the
'Breath Of Doom'-compilation, their actual music may be described as a mixture of Metallica
and Sentenced. It's really a pity that such a high talentated band has only done a demo tape
with 5 regular tracks plus intro and outro. But their first full-length-CD is supposed to come
out in March 2000. As the sound on the tape is excellent, it can underline the different
musicians' abilities without greater problems.
