Although I came in contact with Rasputin via the Metal Rules fanzine, this is a Hardcore
Hip Hop Rap act from Florida. The man behind it is Thomas Garcia who also likes to call
himself Rasputin or Hitman. Unfortunately, the sound quality of this demo tape is rather
bad what counts especially for the first two track. Nevertheless, Rasputin is a quite complex
project and there are not too many parallels between all the songs from the tape. The opener
'Rap the Ripper' goes very much into HipHop what I don't like too much. The song with the
longest title 'The Hit-man's Happenin' Hip-Hop Ball' also contains elements of black music,
but it's groovier than the opener and has a real hit potential. My two favourite songs
on this tape are 'Counter-Revolution' which is a real Industrial track and 'The Will
Of Love' because it's one of the most erotic songs I've ever heard, yeah! This tape
is a real Crossover album as Rasputin calls such different artists as Dan Reed, Celtic
Frost and Beck among his inspirations. It's a pity that Rasputin still doesn't have a
record deal because a good production could rise the quality of those songs very much. You can contact Rasputin by e-mail or snail mail: Rasputin, 6304-D Markstown Drive, Tampa, FL 33617 (USA) |
