Septicemia are a young Austrian band
formed in mid 1997. After the release of a Demo-CD called 'Revenge On Mankind', they decided that
time has arrived for a first self produced full-length-CD. My first and remaining impression after
listening to 'Hopeless Age' is that the band still doesn't know exactly what to play. All songs on
the CD belong to the harder side of Metal, but that's of course not a very precise description. The
opener 'Enter Me' goes into a Black Metal like direction, the following 'Distress Of The Night' is
a combination of Thrash music with Death vocals. Then you find much more quiet, may be even too quiet
songs on the CD like 'Coming Of Chaos'. And 'Morbid Cry', one of the best songs on the CD, is a pure
Grind song. In the band info sheet, Septicemia are proud that they mix different styles of Metal, but
I think that a straight line is missing. Septicemia are best sounding when they play faster and more
aggressive. Two weaker points are a lack of variation in the vocals and the awful production of the
drums. 'Hopeless Age' surely isn't a hopeless debut, but there's still a large interval between
Septicemia and the international standard. To get more information about the band, please write to the following address: Peter Knall, brentenmaisstr. 56, A-3012 WOLFSGRABEN (Austria) |
