This CD-EP has already been released in early 1998, but first we got it a bit late, and second
due to the CD-review overkill we are facing at the moment, this review has only been written
after several months since I got the CD. Sorry about that. But let's get to the important
stuff: the music! Thorrant are a German five-piece power metal band who after several demo
tapes finally recorded their first CD. As I really don't like to talk bad about young bands,
I will start with the positive aspect of the CD: Thorrent are quite good musicians, and the
songwriting contains elements from speed metal to groove metal, so that you don't get the
impression to always have to listen to the same song. The two guitar players are tuned in
to each other very nicely which is reminding me of early 80ies metal bands. Unfortunately,
the production is a bit mediocre and not up to the standards we are used to these days.
Other negative points are the vocals which could need more power and finally the lyrics
that have been written in a really terrible school English. I wonder why those bands don't
choose to sing in their native language, because Rammstein showed that it's also possible
to become internationally famous as a German singing band. Thorrent's song 'Bluttanz' at
least has a German chorus. After 6 regular songs, you can listen to a rather strange bonus
track, but really better skip it. Not yet a very professional band, but if you are interested
in young emerging metal bands, you can contact the band by
email or under the following address: Jens Hiemann, Leningrader Straße 75, 18507 Grimmen, Germany. |
