I'm always quite sceptical when I get demo tapes that are only recorded on 4 tracks, but
when you consider that the second most important death metal LP from all times (Obituary's
'Slowly We Rot') had also only 8 tracks, you can look at the whole thing in a more relaxed
way. Torn's tape has indeed a very raw, but also charming production. Their ultra-brutal
thrash metal is like a slap in the face, and don't forget to put some salt in the wounds to
emphasize the desired effect. The opening song 'Torn' is the weakest song on the tape, but
the three following tunes are heavy as shit. Above all the German 'Der Stich des Wortes' is
a song that bands like Crowbar or Totenmond couldn't have made better. Torn have planned to
release their first CD in Summer this year, but until then you can buy this quite excellent
tape for only 5 DM (plus 3 DM postage) at the following address: Roman Zimmerhackel, Maximilianstraße 26, 90429 NÜRNBERG, Germany. |
