OPTIMIZING YOUR PC FOR AUDIO

1 ) ( This will stop your computer from constantly checking for discs in your tray, therefore saving valuable processing power . )
In the START menu go to SETTINGS \ CONTROL PANEL \ SYSTEM \ DEVICE MANAGER \ then select your CD ROM(s) in the list then select PROPERTIES \ SETTINGS \  Leave only DMA checked in the options section select OK and restart.
2 ) You're screen saver and background got ta go if you want every ounce of power for audio.
 START \ SETTINGS \ CONTROL PANEL \ DISPLAY \
under the heading  BACKGROUND \ select "NONE"
under the heading SCREEN SAVER \ select "NONE"

3 ) START \ CONTROL PANEL \ SYSTEM \ PERFORMANCE \ at the bottom select FILE SYSTEM then  in  the   typical role of this computer list , in the settings section / select NETWORK SERVER from the list.
3a) set  READ AHEAD OPTIMIZATION to FULL
3b) select the GRAPHICS box ( at the bottom next to  FILE SYSTEM ) and set to full.

4 ) START \ FIND \ FILES or FOLDERS \ type in SYSTEM. INI click FIND NOW.
Double click on the found SYSTEM.INI file to open it in notepad.
Then scroll down to the heading vcache and change the numbers for max and min file cache to = 16384.
It should look like this
[vcache]
MaxFileCache=16384
MinFileCache=16384
then save it FILE \ SAVE
