Acorn Pond

Acorn Pond

At Mareeba we don't tend to use this module often as our students find it difficult to relate to several parts of this module, particularly the winter section, and several of the animals. The temperatures we experience duing our different seasons are very different to those experienced at Acorn Pond.

Despite these differences, there are still parts that are appropriate. We have butterflies, frogs and fish that follow the same lifecycles, and it is interesting for children to have a look a seasons, flora and fauna in other parts of the planet.

* Examine how the Field Notebook is written. Create another page about another animal, perhaps a pet or a native animal. This page might include pictures or drawings of the animal at different stages of group, labled parts, a list of food etc.

* Visit a local waterhole, creek, pond (or any body of water) and make a list of the animals that you can see. Record these in a notebook. You could have children draw and name the animals while you are out on your walk, and then compile them into a book to share with others.
