M's Dance Music Reviews

My opinion: * = poor, ***** = excellent
I display the total of stars that the album has and the average stars for each song. Albums with more than 3.00 average or more than 30 stars total are worth checking out.

From January 1998 I stopped updating this page.

This is the best album from 1997 I've heard so far! Eurodance fans will love this album, with 9 true Eurodance tracks, one reggae track (Uh La La La), one midtempo funky track (Because I Miss You) and one ballad (Hold On). There is nothing more to say: Excellent!

Review: 17-5-1997
She's from Holland and I am proud of her: with the help of the Real McCoy producers she reached the American Chart with the catchy "This Is Your Night". This album has all kinds of stuff: eurodance, house, R'n'B and ballads. I personally don't like R'n'B and the ballads, so I only have the album for the songs "This Is Your Night", "Colour Of Love" and the great song "Can You Feel The Love", which sounds a bit like "I Belong To You" from Gina G. Also Eurodance, but not as great as the three named songs are "Being With You" and "Hold My Body Tight". If you don't like R'n'B you can skip songs 4, 5 and 10. All in all: an average album.

Review: 9-5-1997
The producers of Blümchen have listened very well to what is happening on the dancefloor nowadays. All these influences can be heard on this new album from Blümchen. She now has some dreamhouse tracks on the CD ("Du Bist Die Insel" and Eisblumen). The song Eisblumen reminds me a little bit of DJ Quicksilver and Future Breeze and maybe a bit Temple Of Love from Pharao. Du Bist Die Insel only misses the voice of Maggie Reilly to be a new M.R. track! On this track Blümchens speaking part sounds a bit like Sandra on Don't Be Aggressive. On Übermorgenland I seem to hear a small sample from RMB's Reality. The song Reise Durch Die Zeit must be inspired by Million Miles From Home from Dune. In Achterbahn I hear a little bit General Base with Thank U for your love. And do I hear a little bit Dune (again) and Three'n'One at Engel Der Nacht? Hey, and there are Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo on Verrückte Jungs! And also Scooter seems to be a big inspiration (I hear a bit Scooter in almost every song). But I must say: all these influences have made this album GREAT! I think this album is much better than the first album Herzfrequenz. Only Gib Mir Noch Zeit doesn't belong on this album. I hope not this will be released as a single. Look at Scooter with Break It Up: a total FLOP! Blümchen is RAVE, not BALLAD!

Blue System - Body To Body (39 stars, average: 3.545)

9. Deeper Deeper (3:22) ****
10. Oh I Miss You (3:35) *
11. Thank God, It's Friday (3:17) *****
Review: 12-5-1997
This album is heaven for every Eurodance music lover. Dieter Bohlen changed his music style to songs with more BPMs. The titletrack "Body To Body" is a nice euroreggae track. An other euroreggae track is "Freedom", which reminds me of Erotic's "Gimme Good Sex". The song "It's For You" sounds a bit like "World Of Freedom" from Magic Affair. Other toptracks are "On And On" and "Thank God, It's Friday Night". Because I like fast music, the two ballads "For The Children" and "Oh I Miss You" are not my favorites, but other people maybe like these songs.

14. Get Ready To Bounce - Funk Attack (6:49) **
Review: 20-6-1997
This is the debutalbum from the German group that stands for Progressive Dancemusic. For me, this album is a bit of a disappointment, because I thought to get more songs like The Theme and Get Ready To Bounce. But except for Take A Ride and Feel My Energy, it only contains 'heavy club stuff'. By this I mean, songs with not much melody which get quite boring after a while. But of course, there will be people who like this! The song Relax is a cover of the Franky Goes To Hollywood classic from the eighties, although it sounds completely different.

DJ Quicksilver - Quicksilver (31 stars, average: 3.100)

9. Deep In Motion (6:52) ***
10. African Rain (5:02) *
Review: 20-6-1997
There is not much I can say about the debutalbum from DJ Quicksilver. The songs I Have A Dream, Bellissima and Free are already wel-known tracks, and the fans will also remember Bingo Bongo, his first hit. The other tracks on this album are in the same trancy style but are not very outstanding, except for the track Synphonica, which is my tip to become the next single. All in all, not a bad album, but two or three more tracks would make this album much better.

Future Breeze - Why? (25 stars, average: 2.273)

8. Islamic Nights (8:04) **
9. Feel (7:27) *
10. Fairytales Of Darkness (11:32) *
11. Phunkment (6:43) *
Review: 10-5-1997
When I heard the hits Keep The Fire Burnin' and Why Don't You Dance With Me I thought: maybe Why? is a nice album. So I bought it, but I regret it already. The already named songs are quite good, but with the exception of the song Illusion it only contains heavy clubtracks. All songs are a bit trancy, but to make a song of 11:32 minutes (Fairytales Of Darkness) with no melody is really boring. This album only deserves 2 stars for the singles, but all other tracks are not worth listening to. If you like commercial dance songs, this is nothing for you, so save your money, but... if you like club music, maybe this is something for you!

Gina G - Fresh! (36 stars, average: 3.000)

9. I Belong to You - Radio edit (3:18) *****
10. Higher than Love (3:43) ****
11. It Doesn't Mean Goodbye (5:17) *
12. Ooh aah...Just a little bit - Motiv8 Vintage Honey Mix (6:45) ****
Review: 23-4-1997
This is the first dance-album I bought this year, apart from some compilation albums. It is an average album, with some nice songs as Ooh..aah.. and the great track I belong to you. Gimme some love reminds me a little bit of Real McCoy. Everytime I fall is a poor ballad. Rhythm of my heart is a copy of the Motiv8 song Rockin' for myself but has a nice rhythm.

12. Something To Dream Of (3:47) ****
13. The Call (5:49) ****
Review: 30-5-1997
The album is described as The Dance Album Of The Year on the commercials, but I do not agree! The album starts with Don't Go. Put Please before the title and you have Please Don't Go from No Mercy. The somg even sounds a bit like it. The 4th track Heaven's Got To Be Better reminds me a bit of Baby D's Let Me Be Your Fantasy. If you listen to track 9 and 10 you maybe think: I heard these songs before, but where? Well, Kim Sanders released these songs two or three years ago. I don't know why the songs are on this album, I think the original versions were better. But of course there are also some great tracks on this album. Call Me is one of the best eurodance songs of 1997. Tonight Is The Night also is true Euro-heaven (sung by Melanie Thornton from La Bouche). I also like the track Something To Dream Of, thanks to the great work of Nosie Katzmann, who seems to be appear on all dance albums from various artists (like Culture Beat, Scooter, Nina, Ice MC, Loft, Jam & Spoon, Intermission etc.). The last track on the album is The Call, a nice instrumental piece of art. To conclude: it's an average dance album with some jewels on it.

Mr.President - Nightclub (28 stars, average: 2.800)
Released: 1997
1. So They Set Of (Intro) (1:30)
2. You Can Dance (4:12) *
3. Hasta Manana (4:19) ***
4. I Won't Let You Down (3:23) **

9. Gonna Get Up (4:05) *
10. I Wanna Give My Love To You (3:33) ***
11. Take Your Chance (4:13) ****
12. Inline-Outline (3:21) **
13. The Music Disappeared (Outro) (0:42)
Review: 26-8-1997
Oh No...! What happened to that nice trio who made eurodance big with great songs like Up 'n Away, Follow The Sun and Gonna Get Along? On the last album we already heard that Mr.President is going into the wrong direction with songs like Show Me The Way, and with this new album they really lost contact to the world of euro dance music. What do we have on this CD? Some house, some dance, some ballad, some pop, but no euro! Except maybe for Take Your Chance and Take Me To The Limit, but this last song sounds different from the single version. If you live in America, you will maybe like this album, but for European music lovers I would say: don't buy it!

11. Encore Une Fois - Future Breeze Mix (6:25) *****
12. Ecuador - Bruce Wayne Mix (5:48) ***
Review: 9-7-1997
A month after the release of the Dutch and Belgium version of this album, the official German release is available, with 12 tracks. The album is divided into 4 areas: Club Trax, Pop Trax, Single Trax and Remix Trax. The first three songs are the club trax. I am not devoted to clubmusic, but I like Mighty Break, it sounds a bit like Encore Une Fois. The track Stay is my most favourite. Beautiful vocals combined with a strong sound. The single trax are all well known to the fans: Encore Une Fois and Ecuador were big hits all over the world. The remix section contains the same tracks as the single section, but remixed. In my opinion one of the better albums of 1997.

Review: 26-8-1997
They started in 1994.. In 1995 the first album was released... In 1997 the 4th album sees the light. But this album cannot compete with the first. There are some nice song on this album, like The Age Of Love, Fire and Hit The Drum, but there are also some horrible songs on this album. For example Tonight and Don't Waste No Time, songs which are influenced by The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers. This album also has the second techno-ballad.... (the first was on the album Wicked) called Leave In Silence. An average album, but it's good enough for my record collection.

Review: 25-4-1997
This album is het best album I bought so far in 1997. If you like fast Eurodance like the better Masterboy songs, then this album is something for you. (The only annoying parts are the rap-parts) It contains 10 songs and 5 remixes. From these 10 songs, 8 are 'classic' Euro-tracks, the other 2 are more ballad/reggae like ('Crazy for love' and 'I love to dance'). Producer Mark Farina (who also produced Playahitty and DJ Miko) did a great job.
