M's Dance Singles Reviews

My opinion: * = poor, ***** = excellent

From January 1998 I stopped updating this page.
If you want to see what is new and hot at this moment look at The Music Corner for some reviews in Dutch language. Even if you cannot read Dutch, it might be interesting. Also check M's Magnificent 100 to see what is hot at this moment in the German, Dutch and Belgium clubs.

2 Fabiola is the number one export product from Belgium and you know why if you hear this new song (taken from a to be released album). It is kind of an euro sound, but a magic euro sound! The only annoying part of this song is the screaming part (they did that already in their song Play That Song).

Blümchen - Nur Geträumt ***
Released: 1997
1. Nur Geträumt - Traum in der Luft Mix (3:42) ****
2. Nur Geträumt - Langer Traum Mix (6:12) ****
3. Nur Geträumt - Holger Hiller Drum'n'Bass Mix (5:41) *

Review: 17-5-1997
Hmmm... I like Blümchen a lot, but a cover again? This time it is an old song of Nena and I think that the original sounded better. This new version also is quite good, but there are only three mixes on this CDsingle: the single, the extended and some horrible Drum'n'Bass Mix (skip this version immediately!!!). I hope the next single will have some more and better remixes on it.

Blümchen - Verrückte Jungs ****
Released: 1997
1 Verrückte Jungs (Jungs In der Luft Mix) 3:49 ****
2 Verrückte Jungs (Grosse Jungs Mix) 6:15 ****
3 Verrückte Jungs (Ultra-Sonic Mix) 4:40 ***
4 Verrückte Jungs (Album Mix) 5:08 ***

Review: 8-7-1997
The second single from her second album is one of the fastest songs ever with more then 180 Beats Per Minute. I think it's not the greatest track of the album (that is SOS - Herz In Not or Eisblumen in my opinion), but the single remix is quite good! The song now sounds a bit like her third single Boomerang. If you like fast rave/happy hardcore beats, buy this song!

Brooklyn Bounce - Take A Ride *****
Released: 1997
1. Take A Ride - Radio Mix (3:38) *****
2. Take A Ride - Alternative Radio Mix (3:44) *****
3. Take A Ride - Original Club Mix (5:45) *****
4. Take A Ride - Let It Go Mix (7:33) ***

Review: 26-8-1997
This is the third release from this team from Germany. A scary looking man with two lovely ladies are on the cover and also in the great video. This song is not very different from the previous releases Get Ready To Bounce and The Theme. Only this time there are some female vocals.

Cappella - Be My Baby ****
Released: 1997
1. Be My Baby - Bix Radio Remix (3:44) ****
2. Be My Baby - Bix Mix (5:27) ****
3. Be My Baby - Bismark Mix (7:00) ****
4. Be My Baby - Praia Latina Mix (5:20) *
5. Be My Baby - RAF Zone Mix (6:54) ***
6. Be My Baby - Van S. Hard Mix (7:15) *

Review: 22-5-1997
I like Cappella a lot for one reason: they always put many remixes on their CDsingles, so there are always some mixes I like. This CDsingle contains six mixes. Cappella sounds great as ever on the first three mixes. The Praila Litina Mix is not my favorite, but if you like Brasilian influences combined with house, this is maybe something for you. The RAF Zone Mix is a progressive track. Very well done.

DJ Quicksilver - Free ****
Released: 1997
1. Free - Video Mix (3:25) ****
2. Free - Club Mix (7:18) ****
3. Free - Free 2 Flow Mix (6:55) ***
4. Free - Original Version (6:20) ****

Review: 17-5-1997
DJ Quicksilver had a big hit in Europe with his double A-side single I Have A Dream and (the better) Bellissima. So it was expected that his new song would do very well in the German chart. It entered at number 5! It sounds a bit like the other singles, but this song has more power. The CDsingle offers 4 mixes, but they kind of sound all the same in my opinion.

Flambé featuring Marina - Ti Amo ****
Released: 1997
1. Ti Amo - Radio Mix (4:10)
2. Ti Amo - Ballad (4:39)
3. Ti Amo - Euromix (7:47)
4. Ti Amo - House Anthem (8:38)

Review: 18-5-1997
Giancarlo Bigazzi & Umberto Tozzi wrote this song years ago, Laura Branigan recorded it and now the song is back in a Eurodance style. It has a very catchy sound, a bit like the Masterboy sound on Feel The Heat Of The Night. I like this sound very much, although I think that without the vocals the song is be even better! For samples in different formats check out the website for MRK Records.

Garcia - Bamboleo ****
Released: 1997
1. Bamboleo - Radio Edit (3:48) *****
2. Bamboleo - Bambo Mix (5:35) ***
3. Bamboleo - Extended Mix (4:57) *****
4. Bamboleo - Full Moon Mix (6:49) **

Review: 22-7-1997
Garcia are well known for their 1996-summer hit Vamonos. In 1997 they are trying again to launch a big summerhit with this song inspired by Mr.President's Coco Jamboo. This is top euro reggae!

Hand In Hand For Children - Children Need A Helping Hand ****
Released: 1997
1. Children Need A Helping Hand - Radio Version (4:06) ****
2. Children Need A Helping Hand - A Capella (3:32) ***
3. Children - Radio Mix (3:33) ****
3. Personal Statements Of Artists (5:07) *

Review: 22-7-1997
This is a charity song for children who suffer from cancer. Artists like Masterboy, Mr.President, Captain Jack, DJ Bobo, Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync are singing together in the great Euro-track from producer Axel Breitung (well known for as producer for DJ Bobo and Indra). The 3rd track is another song, a ballad, which was released last year (also as charity song). On the 4th track all artists are saying a few words.

Marina feat. Kraze - Do Ya Wanna Dance ****
Released: 1997
1. Do Ya Wanna Dance - Retro Disco Radio (4:01) ***
2. Do Ya Wanna Dance - Eurobeat Radio (4:44) ****
3. Do Ya Wanna Dance - Tribal Club Anthem (6:06) **
4. Do Ya Wanna Dance - House Mix (4:37) ***
5. Do Ya Wanna Dance - Retro Disco Extended (6:55) ***
6. Do Ya Wanna Dance - Eurobeat Extended (6:39) ****

Review: 8-7-1997
This is the second release from MRK Records, after the Ti Amo single. In a time where progressive dance is dominating the dancefloors Marina is bringing back those great end-eighties, beginning-nineties, where we had the Stock, Aitken and Waterman sound. Remember I Should Be So Lucky from Kylie Minogue or Maybe from Hazell Dean? Listen to the second and sixth mix of this CD-maxi and you will hear the same great Euro/HiNRG-sound. If you like more the seventies, then listen to track one and five, and you will discover the disco music from those years again. It is nice to see that the euro and disco sound is still alive! More info and sound samples are available at MRK Records.

Masterboy - La Ola Hand In Hand *****
Released: 1997
1. La Ola Hand In Hand - Radio Edit (3:43) *****
2. Set Me Free - Radio Edit (3:37) *****
3. La Ola Hand In Hand - Club Mix (5:13) *****
4. Set Me Free - Club Mix (6:36) *****

Review: 5-8-1997
La Ola Hand In Hand is a song in the same style as Mister Feeling, Land Of Dreaming and Just For You, a nice midtempo song with some euro reggae. The song comes from the album Colours but it is remixed a little. The other track on this CD is a new track: Set Me Free is a great dance track with much energy in it. But... where did I hear this song before? Did Masterboy borrow a little bit from Da Beat Goes from Red 5? Anyway, it sounds great as always. Masterboy are the one and only kings of Eurodance.

M.R. - Listen To Your Heart (The Mixes) *****
Released: 1997
1. JPO & Beam video Mix (3:57) *****
2. DJ Beam's Radio Mix (3:55) ****
3. De Donatis Vocal Remix (6:31) ****
4. JPO & Beam Club Mix (5:38) *****
5. DJ Beam's Extended Mix (6:45) ****
6. Single Edit (3:43) ***

Review: 17-5-1997
I have always been a big fan of Maggie Reilly, since she did the vocals on Mike Oldfields Moonlight Shadow. This song is the third song from her latest album that was totally remixed, after Walk On By and To France. I think this is the best remix-CDsingle of them all. All the 6 mixes are great and that's rare nowadays for a single. If you like Future Trance sound with some warm vocals, this is the song for you!

M.R. - Listen To Your Heart (The Mixes Part II) *****
Released: 1997
1. Sequential One Radio Remix (3:41) *****
2. Jam Factory Remix (6:12) ****
3. Sequential One Club Remix (5:38) *****
4. De Donatis Club Remix (5:35) ****

Review: 9-8-1997
This song is without any doubt my personal favourite song for 1997. I liked the first remixes very much, and these new remixes are also outstanding! The first and third mix are from Sequential One and therefore sound a bit like their own hits My Love Is Hot and I Wanna Make U, without losing that unique Maggie Reilly touch. The Jam Factory Remix reminds me a bit of Free by DJ Quicksilver. If you love the first remixes from Listen To Your Heart, you must have these new remixes too!

Nalin & Kane - Beachball ****
Released: 1997
1. Beachball - Vocal Radio Mix (3:52) *****
2. Beachball - Original Radio Edit (3:57) *****
3. Beachball - Extended Vocal Mix (7:27) *****
4. Beachball - Original Club Mix (10:21) *****
5. Beachball - Sea Side Mix (8:10) ****

Review: 22-7-1997
Picture this: a beach, it's 4 AM, it's a hot night and a beach party is at it's end. You and your (girl-)friend are sitting on the beach and in the background this song is playing... That is exactly the feeling I get when I listen to this song. This is without any doubt the best trance track from 1997! In this song you can even hear the wave of the sea. And did you see the video? Isn't that the same man as in the Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar clip with his black suitcase?

Nomansland - Fantasy *****
Released: 1997
1. Fantasy - Radio/Video single Mix (3:30) *****
2. Fantasy - The 12 inch (6:46) *****
3. Fantasy - Instrumental Version (6:46) *****

Review: 17-5-1997
Only three versions on this CDsingle. (They saved other mixes for Fantasy-Remixes. It seems that everyone these days releases a 'normal' CDsingle and a few weeks later a CDsingle with more remixes). Nomansland had a first hit with "7 Seconds", a song which sounds like B.B.E. with Seven Days And One Week. This new song is trancy with some dreaming vocals from frontwoman J.J. If you like Pharao's Temple Of Love, you will like this too.

Nomansland - Fantasy (Remixes) ****
Released: 1997
1. Fantasy - Kosmonova Radio Mix (3:43) ****
2. Fantasy - Break Of Dawn (6:38) ***
3. Fantasy - Kosmonova World Mix (6:00) ****
4. Fantasy - DJ Planet Remix (6:00) ****

Review: 17-5-1997
Four more tracks of this wonderful song. These mixes give more power to the song. Kosmonova is also known for his single Raumpatrouille. The remixes are quite nice, but why bring out a remix-CDsingle? Just put it on the normal CDsingle. Saves us listeners some money!

Object One - Typewriter ****
Released: 1997
1. Typewriter - Original Radio Mix (3:58) *****
2. Typewriter - Original Club Mix (6:43) *****
3. Typewriter - Beat & Peter Underground Mix (8:25) *
4. Typewriter - Free Techno Mix (7:23) *****
5. Typewriter - DJ's At Work Hard Mix (6:48) **

Review: 26-8-1997
Typewriter is the very well done follow-up to the annoying song Ping Pong. This new song sounds a bit like Red 5 and Brooklyn Bounce, but is great. You can skip mix 3 and 5, but the 4th mix is great, I wonder if it is a remix or a complete new song.

Reset - You Got The Key ***
Released: 1997
1. You Got The Key - Radio Edit (3:59) ***
2. You Got The Key - Extended Version (6:10) ***
3. You Got The Key - Dance Hall Style (6:18) ***
4. You Got The Key - Instrumental (3:55) ***

Review: 22-5-1997
Reset is the new project from the producer of Mr.President: Kai Matthiessen. For this first song he hired the voice of Dannii (the red one from Mr.President). This CDsingle contains 4 versions, which are not much different from each other. They all sound a bit like BBE's Seven Days And One Week. The song is very melodic, but maybe a bit boring after hearing it several times.

RMB - Break The Silence / Everything ***
Released: 1997
Art.Nr.: Low Spirit 74321 49234 2
1. Break The Silence (6:29) ****
2. Everything (5:56) **
3. Break The Silence - short (3:57) ****
4. Everything - short (4:31) **

Review: 20-6-1997
We had to wait almost half a year for this follow-up to Reality, but it's finally here, the new single from the guys who are in my alltime favourite music list with the unforgettable songs Redemption and Spring. This new double A-side is quite good, but not what I expected of it. The song Break The Silence is quite okay and sounds a bit like Reality, but what have the guys done with Everything? I heard this song for the first time during a live-performance for Eins Live Radio and the second time at the Eins Live Silvesterparty 1996. Then I thought it was a marvellous song and it reached number 1 in my personal chart in the beginning of 1997. But on this CD-maxi they remixed the track in a horrible way. The result is some breakbeat-track that I don't like. I hope the original track will be available somewhere in the near future (maybe on Break The Silence - The Remixes?).

Sash! - Ecuador *****
Released: 1997
1. Ecuador - Single Mix (3:31) *****
2. Ecuador - Original 12" (5:53) *****
3. Ecuador - Future Breeze Mix (6:06) ***
4. Ecuador - Klubbheads Mix (6:31) ***
5. Ecuador - Bruce Wayne Mix (5:48) ****
6. Ecuador - Feelmachine Mix (5:45) **

Review: 31-5-1997
Encore Une Fois, Encore Une Fois... I can't get this song out of my mind. But now Sash! returned with again a marvellous song: Ecuador. This song brings you in the right holidaymood. The remixes on this CD-maxi are average, but the single mix and original 12inch are outstanding. If there wasn't M.R. with Listen To Your Heart, this song would be my favourite song of 1997 so far.

1. Radio Version (3:31) *****
2. Club Mix (5:35) ****
3. Groove Mix (5:22) ****
AA-Side: Get Down
1. Radio Version (3:51) ****
2. More Vox Mix (6:15) ***
3. Club Mix (6:15) ***

Review: 31-5-1997
Sequential One is one of those groups which stands for great Progressive Future Trance. Together with acts like Red 5, Sash!, Future Breeze, Brooklyn Bounce, M.R. and DJ Quicksilver they 'invented' this sound of 1997. This CD Maxi gives you value for money. It includes 2 CDs, one with three mixes for Get Down and the other with three mixes for I Wanna Make U.... My favoritie is I Wanna Make You.... If you liked the previous track My Love Is Hot, you will like this song too.

Sequential One - Dreams *****
Released: 1997
1. Dreams - Video Mix (3:48) *****
2. Dreams - Radio Edit (3:51) *****
3. Dreams - Club Mix (6:33) ****
4. Dreams - ATB Mix (5:52) ****

Review: 26-9-1997
This is what the best of German Dance music is offering you! I liked the previous track I Wanna Make U a lot, but this track is even better. Listen to the real audio clip and judge for yourself.

Sunbeam - Dreams *****
Released: 1997
Art.Nr.: Urban 573 889 - 2
1. Dreams - Radio Mix (3:34) *****
2. Dreams - Extended (4:58) *****
3. Dreams - Club Dub (6:25) ****
4. Sequence (5:11) ***

Review: 20-6-1997
Sunbeam is one of the less known dance projects from Germany. I discovered them in 1996 with the song Arms Of Heavn, a song produced by the guys from Scooter. On this new single again we see the names of two Scooter-members: Rick Jordan and Ferris Bueller. This new song is very a well produced dream dance track with some hard to get out of your head samples. If you like Scooter in a slower version, you will love this track.

Ventura - Electrified *****
Released: 1997
1. Electrified - Radio Version (3:35) *****
2. Electrified - Chuck Mellow Remix (6:17) ***
3. Electrified - Extended Version (6:00) *****
4. Electrified - Synapse Remix (6:41) ****
5. Electrified - Video Cut (3:52) *****

Review: 21-7-1997
Is there a new music style born? Electro-trance! That would be the style that would describe best this song. It is a great trance track with beautiful female vocals and a great melody, a bit like Stay from Sash!.

Vertigo - Magic Eyes *****
Released: 1997
1. Magic Eyes - Radio Mix (3:23) *****
2. Magic Eyes - X-Tended Club Mix (7:30) *****
3. Magic Eyes - Brooklyn Bounce Mix (6:35) ***
4. Magic Eyes - Spacefrog's EMS 2000 Mix (7:13) ***
5. Magic Eyes - Object One Mix (5:17) ***

Review: 9-7-1997
Fantastic Dream Dance track from this DJ, who had earlier this year a hit with Oxygene, a cover from Jean Michel Jarre. This maxi has some remixes from well-known atcs like Brooklyn Bounce and Spacefrog. Together with a fantastic video (one of the best made this year, take a look at Viva TV Germany to see it), this song will be a big hit in Europe this summer.
