More Boats
Venture 21 Here's another boat we had a lot of fun with. It's a 21 foot Venture with a retractable keel/centerboard. We kept her on Atwood Lake in Ohio. I can recall sailing her several times in the snow, as we were nearly always first in and last out during the sailing season at the marina.
Here's Mike Walton, standing in the bow of a Herreshoff designed Q Boat. The boat was owned by some Sea Scouts at Port Huron, Ohio, and, as I recall, was being offered for sale for the incredible price of $2,500! She lay in the water like a needle. Not one you could single-hand -- She required a crew of six to handle the rigging. Racing Q Boat
On Board the English Rose II Dave Campbell handles a sheet on way to La Valetta, Malta. The boat was 60 feet overall and was ketch rigged. This was an interesting trip -- especially when we ran out of diesel fuel for the engines AND wind for the sails. What should have been a 10 hour cruise turned in to a 3 day adventure. I was even arrested by the Maltese authorities when I attempted to leave the island to return to Sicily! ... But that's another story.
