| 2002 Great Plains Star Party |

We set up camp at the Kansas Astronomy Village, site of the annual event. This was our first opportunity to try the new Komet side tent on the Westy. It added a lot of living space. Below: Dave soaks up some rays in front of the tent.

Then it was Mike's turn in the easy chair.

It was so hot during the afternoons that we resorted to taking some side trips in Mike's air conditioned car in order to cool off. One trip took us to Butler, Missouri, birthplace of our favorite Sci Fi author, Robert A. Heinlein.
Then it was back to the star party in time to get set up for a night's observing. The nighttime sky was nearly perfect every night. Early one morning, I was able to snap this photo of Jupiter through my LX90 telescope just before sunrise.

We had some fun with our ham radio rigs.
Here Mike makes an early evening contact.

Mike enjoying a late morning breakfast.
We brought all kinds of food but cooked very little of it. It was just too darn hot! |
The obligatory Great Plains Star Party sunset shot.
See you next year!
