KISS is born. The band is discovered playing at a small hotel in New York's Times Square. A recording contract with Casablanca Records follows.
KISS is the opening act that gets more attention than the headliners. KISS is loved or hated, but never ignored. Kiss and Hotter Than Hell are released.
KISS headlines for the first time at Detroit's Cobo Hall to a sold-out crowd of 12,000 fans. The KISS Army is born and on the march nationwide. Dressed To Kill is released featuring the band's first smash-hit single, "Rock And Roll All Nite." Alive! follows and becomes KISS' first Gold (ultamately Quadruple Platinum) record. On New Year's Eve, KISS is greeted like conquering heroes at the massive Nassau Coliseum in New York.
Sales of Kiss, Hotter Than Hell, and Dressed To Kill surge to Gold record status. These early studio albums are re-released as The Originals - a limited-edition, three-record set that also goes Gold! KISS wins international acclaim touring Canada, England, Germany, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark. The band experiments with new music on its fifth album, Destroyer (featuring the award-winning hit single "Beth") and extends the art of rock'n'roll with its sixth album, Rock And Roll Over. On The home front, KISS blows up its own set and lights the skies with fireworks before a crowd of 50,000 in Anaheim, California.
KISS returns to hometown and glory. Madison Square Garden sells out so fast that an extra concert at nearby Nassau Coliseum is arranged to satisfy disappointed fans. KISS then tours Japan where it sets attendance records not seen since the Beatles! Returning to the US, the band puts its energies into the creation of Love Gun which becomes Platinum with its first shipment to record stores. On tour again in Canada and the US, Alive II is completed and becomes the second definitive collection of remarkable, live KISS performances.
