The Band
The Backstreet Boys are the most incredible pop band around. They've worked very hard to get to where they are, and I'm sure fans around the world are very proud of what they've accomplished. It didn't come easy, though, it takes time to build something so great. Like everything else. And this is their story.
It was in Orlando, Florida that three wonderfully talented guys realized how often they were bumping into one another at auditions; Nick Carter, A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough. They decided to put their voices together and what came out were beautifully harmonized songs. So they began as the Backstreet Boys, taken from a place called Backstreet Market, as the trio continued to sing songs for anyone and everyone.
A little while later, they decided that they needed some more voices to make their sound stronger. A mutual friend introduced them to Kevin Richardson, who in turn introduced them to his younger cousin, Brian Littrell, who was in Kentucky at the time. They welcomed Brian when he relocated to Orlando and the five members made the group complete. Their sound was big. Their sound was bad. Their sound was the Backstreet Boys.
After about six months or so, they band had gotten some pretty heavy feedback from audiences. They were about the hottest live act in Florida. They sang at high schools, they sang at a grad night in Sea World, they even opened for Brandy. Plus, they had an indie single called "Tell Me That I'm Dreaming." With all this, they were sure to be signed. Their manager Donna Wright knew Jive Record's David MacPherson, and after begging him to hear the Boys, he finally got the chance to listen and immediately after that, they were signed.
1995 was Backstreet's first big year. After finally getting their foot in the door, they released "We've Got It Goin' On" which was a big success in England. The country already had groups like BSB, so they had it made. They didn't just have the gorgeous faces, they had the sound. "I'll Never Break Your Heart" began to climb the charts shortly after. That was just the beginning...
They won a Smash Hits Award in London for Best New Tour Act and performed the awesome single, "I'll Never Break Your Heart" on Top of the Pops.
Germany and Austria were the next countries to fall in love with the Backstreet Boys. "I'll Never Break Your Heart" went to number one. Montreal got a taste of the Backstreet vibe, and loved it as well. Soon they were singing in front of hoards of screaming fans. People everywhere loved them. Their sound was fresh and many people enjoyed it. You think that's good? Well, they hadn't even released their debut album yet! Just imagine how much more magnified this fame would become after it was released!
In April of 1996, their self-titled album hit the stores, and the fans also hit the stores to buy it. They guys went on a European tour, they went to Asia and Aussie and by the end of the year, they had done another European tour and had won an MTV Europe Viewer's Choice Award. After that, it was time to hit Canada, where the album had gone 6 times platinum and had slid into the number one spot on the charts very comfortably.
Now back in Florida, the guys have spent some time in the studios coming up with the follow up to their awesome debut. They have released another song, called "-------------- (Backstreet's Back)" and it is just yet another one of their great songs. I know there are many more to come and I can't wait for the album to be in stores. I'll definately be in one of them to buy it! And when they come on tour again to Canada, you can bet that I'll be in the front row (like I am at all concerts I go to), watching Nick, A.J., Howie, Kevin and Brian perform. I only wish I knew them personally because from what I do know, and I'm sure you'll all agree, they seem like SUCH nice guys! Caring, sweet, loveable, kind-hearted, good-looking (!), ..... the list goes on and on....
