Too Funky:
"Too Funky" is from the "Red Hot + Dance" AIDS benefit album. This was the first and only single from the album. It was a major airplay classic on both sides of the Atlantic. In fact, it peaked at #6 on US Airplay, also achieving a gold RIAA certification for sales of over 500,000 copies in the US. It also came with a great video with an awesome fashion statement, my opinion. The song itself is a funky R&B track with a great beat. (Don't all of his songs though? This is one of my personal favorites) Okay your turn!
Too Funky on the Charts:
UK: #4
US: #10

I love this song. It's nice to know that there are musicians out there that have the ability to create different styles of music. There are so many artists that can only produce one type of music. George is so innovative in using his abilities to explore new areas of music. " Too Funky" is an excellent example of how creative he is.

Too Funky would have to be one of the sexiest songs ever written. That, and Fastlove, are so honest and in-your-face. This is why Too Funky is one of my favourite Gerge Michael songs. The film clip was so slick and, from a film point of view, brilliantly shot, edited and conceived. The fact that Geroge directed the clip makes it even better. To me the song and the clip and all the concepts behind it all, reflect a side of him which really appeals to me. It was also around teh time when he seemed to be really finding himself and doing his music for himself, and not for anyone else's gain...I don't know. I hate to philosophise on someone else's life, so I won't do it! But it is a perfect song and one which should be on his greatest hits.

Too Funky.... mmmmmh!
You wouldnt imagine all that I had to do to get that CD, it was until I
went to Miami (I live in Mexico) that I was able to get it. The first time
I listened to it it was like having bubbles in my head... I mean this song
unleashes the dancing power in me, it can transport me to all-dancing place
in which I can imagine myself shaking my body along with Linda, Beverly,
Tyra and the rest of the girls. Of course I love the song, in fact this
one and "Freedom" are my favorites.

It does bring back memories, in fact I think this song is always in me, I
carry it with me in everything I do everyday. The video couldnt be
better...th models, the dancing, the show, George looking
gorgeous...everything is perfect on the video!!
Well, thats my opinion bout it!

All I can say about Too Funky is that when it started to be airplayed on
the radio, everybody around me seemd to agree to tell me that it didn't
sound like George Michael, that they didn't recognize him. I did, of course
and to me it was like fresh air after LWP. I understood these comments to a
point but I will always defend this changes, this surprises that George
sometimes gives us. I believe it's his secret. Well... to be honest I'm
always complaining about his unpredictibity, but the deepest of me always
comes up grateful at the end, somehow he never disappoints, I'll never get
tired of saying to everybody that he never disappoints he only surprises.
It's just that it normally takes a flexibility of mind to continuous update
that we are not very used to have... but there aren't many people this
genuinely creative.

Gotta love it! Too Funky has a hypnotic effect on the listener that just
makes you wanna get up and dance. The song suprisingly did well coming from
a benefit album of mostly remixes. I don't think people expected it to top
the charts like it did. It just goes to show George is THE MAN when it
comes to putting out quality music with impecable taste.

I wish I could comment this week, but to be honest, I have only heard part
of this song once! And someone was complaining earlier that Canadians get
more exposure to George than they do in the States. All I can say to that
is.... HA! I have never heard this song on the radio once, only seen part
of the video once on Much Music, and I could not even say I'm familiar with
the tune. Of course, the Red Hot & Dance album is discontinued, so it's
been difficult for me. Incidentally, besides Fast Love, the last video I
saw was from the Faith days.
So, my point is that it's pretty bad when you can't even comment on a major
hit because you've never heard it.

I love this song. In fact I love all his songs. Whenever I hear Too Funky I
can't help moving my feet. I think it sounds like Fastlove. I think GM can
write any kind of songs. He's a genius.
