BIOGRAPHY

Claus Noreen and Soren Rasted first started the group back in 1989 when they met and began writing music together. They then met René during a recording of a soundtrack for a Danish children's film. René then brought in the Norwegian singer, Lene Grawford Nystrøm, to the group. The four founded the band Joyspeed and made a record deal with a Swedish company. The result was a single called "Itzy Bitzy" which managed to stay a week on Swedish charts. This wasn't enough for the them so they decided to break their contract and start over. How did the name "Aqua" come about? The inspiration was from a poster in their studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, which had an aquarium on it. Even the studio was named Aquarium after that incident. Universal Music Denmark signed Aqua in April '97, and their debut album, "Aquarium", was released there in June.
