Welcome, weary traveller, to Stu's little corner of The Monkberry Moon Delight
Society. There is so little on the Internet on the Long-since-passed away 5th Beatle,
that I, KK, thought there should be a little more respect. Sure, he wasn't a Beatle
very long..and heck, he didn't even know how to play his bass when John
asked him to join, but he was a Beatle. Stu was an extremely talented Artist,
who probably would have gone into a proffessional career at that if Stu hadn't
died that tragic day in 1962.
The story of John Lennon and Stuart Sutcliffe is probably best told in the 1994
film, "Backbeat." It is an emotional film that recalls the years before The Beatles
hit it big. The film mainly focuses on John and Stu, but it has its Paul and George moments too.
Ringo is scarcely in it though, since he had just recently joined the band.
We see them playing in various nightclubs and such, the normal thing. But we
also see a tremendous fight between John and Stu, and how Stu ultimately left the band
to be with his true love, Astrid, in Hamburg. Towards the end of the film, Stu
is painting when suddenly he falls to the ground, screaming in pain. It turns out
Stu had died of a Brain Hemmorhage. (A while ago, playing at a nightclub, the band
was mobbed and Stu was kicked in the head. While he bled, he refused to let his mother
call an Ambulance. This is probably what started the problem...) Three days later, The Beatles
arrive back in Hamburg. John and the others find Astrid in tears.
I have not seen the movie in a good year almost, so some of that information
could be wrong. Please, mail me if you find
anything that is wrong and I will gladly correct it. ^_^
Stuart was born on June 23rd, 1940, and died on April 10th, 1962 at the age of
21, almost 22. If anyone has any information as to where Stu is buried,
or if he was cremated, please let me know. Also, I am in lack of Stu ..um, stuff
to talk about, but I would really like to make this page full. So if you have
any interesting info, please send it my way as well.
