As I remember, I have heard the music of ERASURE for the first time in 1991. And I din't like it very much. That time I listened to very low-standard music such as MODERN TALKING or BLUE SYSTEM and nothing else, well, maybe PET SHOP BOYS, too. A year earlier I started to like the group DEPECHE MODE, which was very fashionable in Russia then.
Once, when our TV showed "Love To Hate You" someone has pointed on "bald" man in a costume behind the keyboard (later I found out that his name is Vince Clark) and I have learned that before he played in DEPECHE MODE. This fact has interested me very much, because from DEPECHE MODE music I liked the most (by the way, now, too) the "Speak and Spell" album in which the majority of songs has been written by Vince Clarke.
I began to pay ever more and more my precious attention to "Chorus" album ... After one month ERASURE became my favourite group, even more than DEPECHE MODE. It became the reason for my friends to sneer on me. They did not like the fact that ERASURE singer Andy Bell is gay. Since then I have been slightly hesitating of my musical tastes, but it does not prevent me to listen ERASURE again and again, and I wish the same to you.
Well, is enough to speak about myself - now let's pay some attention to ERASURE.
ERASURE was founded in 1985. ERASURE is Vince Clarke ( the great Synthy composer known on participation in DEPECHE MODE, YAZOO and THE ASSEMBLY) and Andy Bell (the singer subdued the great composer by his voice - earlier he sang in DINGER and THE VOID).
First ERASURE single " Who Needs Love Like That " took the 55th place in UK charts. The 2 following singles " Heavenly Action " and " Oh L'amour " took the 100th (!!!) and 85th places accordingly.
First ERASURE album "Wonderland" took the 71the place only. It was a real failure for Vince Clarke, (for example, the first DEPECHE MODE album was in UK Top 20, and the project of YAZOO has appeared to be the real treasure for their recording company MUTE - first YAZOO album "Upstairs At Eric's" occupied 2nd place in UK charts, the second album "You And Me Both" became the 1st album with MUTE label which took 1st place in UK, THE ASSEMBLY single "Never Never" was in UK TOP 10).
Few time passed and new ERASURE single "Sometimes" occupied 2nd place. Since then good luck and success followed ERASURE.
ERASURE became not only the most extravagant Synthy-Pop group but also one of UK favourite. Nearly the each following ERASURE album occupied highest places in UK charts. "The Innocents" album has established a record of staying in UK charts in 1988.
Now they are not so young as then, but their music still finds new fans in all corners of the planet from Russia up to Australia.
Enjoy listening ERASURE.
