When you’re deciding on a band name (something catchy, something instant, something that’ll give a lasting impression) it’s probably best not to settle for something that sounds like it’s just beamed down from a tacky 60s sci-fi B-movie like a bad special effect when your music sounds similarly unconvincing, under-produced and lacklustre.

Dawn of the Replicants are slight sufferers of this overly appropriate moniker syndrome. That isn’t to say that there aren’t a number of budding young stars in this low-budget picture. Quite the opposite. There’s a rancid pop wilderbeast just dying to get out, if only it could muster the energy and concentration.

They may make the main feature one day, but for the while treat them with caution.

James Berry.
