Hands up anybody who considers the Counting Crows to be the future of popular music. Come on, own up. This album is probably all of your hopes and dreams bundled onto one conveniently packaged silver disc.

For the sane thinking among us though, presuming we make it to the end without dying of abject boredom, this is the modern American equivalent to Chinese water torture.

Don’t let the fact that they’re on The Stone Roses’ old record label fool you. The fact that they’ve played as support to Sting and that they cite Def Leppard as a major influence are much more telling signs.

Stay away at all costs. Just say NO!

JAMES BERRY.
