They won the NME Brats Unsigned competition last year. They're flavour of the month and
top tips for '98 in most music mags. They've got a really fat bloke, 'amusingly' named
Tiny, as their singer and everyone seems to be ranting and raving about them. But why, God
damn it, should I care? Hmmm?
Well, the answer's really quite simple. Just lie back and listen. Let your ears do the
work. This song may begin sounding like the theme music to The Racoons (kids cartoon
series, used to be shown on Going Live and stuff like that on a Saturday morning, you must
remember - ah, memories...), but as the gentle guitar washes over you sending you into a
false sense of relaxation, the chorus roars into view and hits you like a tidal wave.
With a build up of emotion that'd make Radiohead or The Verve blush, Ultrasound are
surely destined for things as great as their singer is large. Shimmering melodies,
bruising rhythms and a smooth, gliding passion underlying it all. Superb.
James Berry.
