Here is a report that I wrote on Kurt for School, it got me an A.
(it would probably be better if it didn't have to fit school project specifications though)
Today, the world cries over the loss of one the greatest and most influential musicians of our time, Kurt Donald Cobain. His untimely and unfortunate death has left another generation without a voice. Kurt and his band, Nirvana, wrote songs that seemed to make sense to the troubled souls lost in the mist of the modern world. However, I am just one of the millions of insignificant Nirvana fans, and I cannot begin to express what the people of the world feel about this reluctant hero. He touched so many people in his short life, and some people began to think of him as god. Feelings for Kurt Cobain run deep in the hearts of the generation of the 90s.
In the first place, Kurt Cobain was a brilliant musician. He managed to produce four touching albums before his fame led to his tragic end. His voice effect people in amazing ways, and made millions of people fall in love with him. Although Kurt was one of the best musicians on the planet in the last few years, he was never conceded. He didnt want to be a hero or the spirit of the 1990s, but because of his gift for writing beautiful music and touching lyrics he became both. Kurt wasnt a performer, and the only reason that he gave concerts was because the fans wanted them. Kurt realized that he was massively influential over teenagers when he wrote the song Smells Like Teen Spirit. When his friend wrote Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit on his wall in lip stick he took it as the ultimate complement. He thought that she meant that he would be the one to start a teen revolution; she just meant that he smelled like the deodorant. Kurt Cobain did start a revolution, a music revolution. Rock music has forever changed because of Kurt. He created grunge, industrial, and alternative rock music. He took the ha rd rock from the 1980s and the soft 90s rock and turned them into a new kind of music. As one of my friends put it, he was a lil abused puppy dog with the most beautiful howel. "
Not only was Kurt Cobain a one of a kind musician, but he was also a caring, tolerant person. The only people Kurt did no like were thoughts who were predigest. In the cover of the Incesticide album he says At this point I have a request for our fans. If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of different color, or women, please do this one favor for us- leave us the fuck alone! Dont come to our shows and dont buy our records. Many of Nirvanas songs are about how stupid violence is. He lacked conceit, or even the desire to be famous. He had reached the top, and the only place left to go was down. He had nothing left to hope to obtain. Kurts fans had expectation that he didnt know if he could reach. He took his own life in an attempt to free himself from his stardom without loosing the admiration of his fans. Kurt Cobain was here to express his feeling, and it just happened that they make sense to everyone.
Now that Kurt is gone, we must move on with our lives. Dont ever forget Kurt; charish his memory and listen to his music in tribute. He has left his mark in the hearts of his fans. In every country in the world there are people who are trying to come to grips with the loss of Kurt. He has left behind a widow and a young daughter, and their lives will never be the same. Be glad for the music that Kurt left behind.
