I moved my seat a little to the left and looked at the view of the city through the window I was sitting beside.
"AJ and Howie say hi, they had some stuff to do" Kevin said. I sighed and moved my attention back to the table.
"Hows Flipper doing?" Brian asked. I looked at him with a blank expression. He made a face and I smiled.
"Flipper's good" I answered.
"Hey Kev, did you know Cortney works at Sea World. She's a marine biologist" Brian confirmed with a playful know it all expression.
"No I didn't... wow... ... you must love working with dolphins" Kevin said.
"I do... ... I love being near the water" I answered and glanced out the window again.
"The ocean's the best place to be" Nick suddenly said. I turned to him.
"Yeah it is" I said almost whispering. There was a glow in his eye I had never noticed before as he smiled. I smiled back sharing the silent moment with him.
"Everytime a silence passes over people, an angel is passing over them" I said as a lump grew in my throat. I could feel the tears threatning to pour.
"Excuse me" I choked and hurriedly walked out the restaurant's door and onto the balcony. I attempted to swallow the lump down as I blinked any tears forming away.
"Come on pull yourself together Cort." I muttered to myself and began pacing. Catching sight of a seat I sat down and softly hit my palm against my head. As I looked back up I noticed someone walking toward me through the white ghost like curtains, almost as if it were a dream. As the figure drew nearer I recognised it as Nick who walked slowly towards me with his hands in his pocket.
"Hey" I muttered.
"Hey" he replied and halted to a stop once he was infront of me.
"Um... can I sit down" he asked before I nodded.
"Who sent you here this time" I asked straight out which seemed to shock him.
"No on actually... I" he replied.
"Sorry, I just assumed" I said. He shrugged and sat beside me. He then took in a deep breath.
"So fresh out here" he said and took his hand out of his pockets and rubbed them together.
"Fresh sea breeze" I whispered. He smiled and looked up at the night.
"It's nice and quiet too" he then said. I lifted an eyebrow and gave him an amused smile.
"Well, it's quiet from the screaming girls" he answered. Pushing some hair away from my face I leant back resting my back on the balcony's ledge. Nick followed my lead and leant back as well and we both just sat there and stared up at the stars, not saying a word. I broke the silence.
"Don't you just wish you could hear the sound of the waves breaking on the shore right now".
"Wish granted" he smiled. I didn't answer. Nick got up and offered me his hand.
"Are you coming?"
I looked at him with a YOU-ARE-KIDDING-RIGHT look. the glow I had seen before looked brighter along with a mischievous glint in his eyes. I grinned and took hold of his hand before he led me towards the door. He suddenly halted, making me jump.
"We'll sneak out" he half whispered, half said.
"What" I softly cried.
"We'll try and get downstairs without them seeing us" he answered. I giggled.
"Are you ready for some action?" he asked.
"Ready as ever" I answered. He watched the table with the guys on it waiting for something to happen so we could run past them and out into the foyer where the elevator was. Nothing. A few seconds later as if someone had heard our wishing, caused a distraction beg enough for us to escape without being seen. Someone on the table beside the one we had been sitting began choking. Talk about too much of a coincidence (*lol* hey, something had to happen!!) Nick didn't wait for the moment to pass he tightened his grip of my hand and sprinted through the restaurant dodging some tables and then right out the door and straight into the elevator. Once the doors were shut we fell on the floor gasping for breath and at the same time laughing.
