Max Martin Tops ASCAP Pop Awards

Max Martin won his second consecutive award for songwriter of the year at ASCAP's 17th annual Pop Music Awards, presented last night in Beverly Hills. The Swedish songwriter and producer's credits include Backstreet Boys' "As Long As You Love Me" and "I Want It That Way," 'N Sync's "Tearin' Up My Heart," and Britney Spears' "... Baby One More Time."
Goo Goo Dolls' "Slide" was named song of the year, EMI Music Publishing won publisher of the year thanks to 14 winning songs, and Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and Walter Becker received the Founders Award for their "unique, diverse, and distinctive contributions to music." Built To Spill took home ASCAP's college radio award.
Awards were given to the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed songs from Oct. 1, 1998, to Sept. 30, 1999.
