KIRK HAMMETT
Lead guitarist and sometimes (more than Jason, less than the other two) songwriter for Metallica
Kirk Hammett was born on November 8, 1962 in San Francisco California. His older brother was a hippie and introduced him to the music of that time. When his brother went away for school, Kirk began fooling around with his brother's guitar. He enjoyed the instrument, and began taking lessons in 1981. He then formed a band called Exodus. Before joining Metallica, he worked in Burger King and in a warehouse. His influences in music included Jimi Hendrix, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai, The Doors, and David Bowie. Kirk met with James, Lars, and Cliff after Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica, and replaced Dave. Shortly after, the foursome recorded Kill 'Em All, Metallica's first major-label album.
