LARS ULRICH
Drummer and songwriter for Metallica
Lars Ulrich was born on December 26, 1963 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In Copenhagen, Lars spent most of his time playing tennis. His father was a tennis pro and this influenced Lars into playing the sport. He continued playing tennis until he moved to Los Angeles where he gave up the sport and wanted to start drumming. He got the idea because he was good at air drumming and hitting cardboard boxes. His grandmother bought him a drum set in 1977. His influences as a drummer included Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Motorhead and Status Quo. He met James through a newspaper called the "Recycler" and formed Metallica with him.
