In the last 20th century Gamelan Music Art is developing nicely. In many countries of the world, gamelan music art is living beautifully, classical gamelan music (gending) side by side with contemporary gamelan music. Gamelan has an urgent position in developing global culture. Gamelan groups are involved in cultural activities in many countries. So it is very important for gamelan lovers all around the world to communicate with each other. Gamelan art and karawitan in Yogyakarta culture area, Indonesia, with Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat (Yogyakarta) Royal Palace as a center, makes Yogyakarta one of the centers of gamelan in the world. The Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival presents many groups and gamelan lovers from all over the world as performers or participants in concerts, broadcasts, seminars and exhibitions.
