It all began actually as
a joke, in the spring of 1996, when Job, Reggy, Wim and Maurice wanted
to raise money for their carnival group. The idea was to play music, dressed
like wanderers. Using the name "Was't Moar Wa", which means something like
"wish it is something"
.
So they started practicing about
10 cover songs and played them at a local festivity.
They raised about 350 dutch guilders,
wich was not bad at all.
After this, they were invited to
come and play at another festivity, dressed the same way.
The guys had big fun, so much they
decided to form a real band, which was named "Storm". Only Maurice (singer
/ performer) left the band.
A good sologuitarist was needed
and was found in Jacques (ex-Paralysis), a metal minded guitarist who wasn't
used to perform accoustic orientated music. So the material to play was
a mix between acoustic guitar music and grunge- rock. This mix would become
the base for the years to come....
After a few months it was time to
perform at the local rock-cafe.
After the unplugged gig (with Jacques
present for the first time) they started looking for a drummer. After two
auditions, Roland joined the band.
At this point the band was complete,
only, they had a problem. Storm had three guitarists and no bass player.
Reggy, who played bass a few times, decided to put the guitar aside and
to play bass, however he still plays the acoustic guitar in some songs.
In this line-up Storm played a lot
of gigs in the local scene and bars, and they started to become better
as a band. But to be able to really grow musically they had to replace
Roland for another drummer. In Mario the right person for the job was found.
The first concert with Mario banging
the drums was in the autumn of 1998. It became a real happening and instead
of the usual two hour performance it went on for three more hours more
in which Mario presented himself as a real podiumanimal !!!
So... the band was very motivated,
a new drummer, a lot of new guitars, a couple of Marshalls and some other
equipment and a few great gigs coming up... among them was opening for
Golden Earring (the biggest and maybe oldest rockband from the Netherlands)
in May ?99.
This was certainly the biggest
moment for the guys so far....
The "Golden Earring" weekend was
a weekend to never forget. Storm played four gigs in two days, as if it
was a tour....
Now , playing a complete new set
list, and at last starting to compose songmaterial of their own, a new
website and new gigs coming up, the year 2000 looks very promissing to
Storm and the rest of the world ...
