The Ugly Ducklings

[The Ugly Ducklings]

This is the Ugly Ducklings in 1968, the last version of the band before it broke up. They had a major hit with Gaslight in 1967.It was #1 from the 1st of August until the 15th of September, a total of six weeks. It was remastered in Hovercraft Studio in 1996 for inclusion in a retrospective CD scheduled for release this year. The remaining Ducklings reunited for one new song for the CD, and I (J.P.) had the pleasure of playing bass on it. Stay tuned to this page for updates as they occur.

That's Dave Bingham, harmonica and vocals, on the left. Next is drummer Rob Boers. He's currently teaching at the Drum Conservatory in Toronto. Center is guitarist Howie Smith. After the band broke up, he built a boat and sailed from Miami, through the Panama Canal and across the Pacific Ocean solo, to the Marshall Islands, where the boat sank. Next is David Kindred, guitarist. He's currently still playing in the Halifax area. On the far right is bassist Bill Speer. He left the band and went with Ann Murray. He can be heard on her mega-hit "Snowbird".
