| So ya want the story behind my nick, huh? I've had so many 'net names in the past few years that I can't remember even half of them. But I have this thing for mythology, especially Greek. So, to honor one of the greatest civilizations of ancient Europe, I've chosen Persephone as my nick. That and it sounds pretty cool. |
The Real Persephone:
First of all, it's pronounced Per-sef-un-ee not Per-seh-fone. Persephone was the daughter of Zeus (ruler of the gods) and Demeter (goddess of agriculture). Her husband is Hades (god of the underworld) who kidnapped her and brought her to the Underworld. Demeter wanted her daughter back and eventually Hades allowed this to happen. First, though, he told Persephone to eat a few seeds. She did so without knowing that this act meant she had to return to Hades for half of the year. Persephone is responsible for the change of seasons due to her mother's mourning while she is with her husband. Her Roman counterpart is Proserpine.
