Result: Cup Round 1 - Systemhouse Integrators 5 Cognos Cougars 1
Last night was fun.
Plenty of passing, lots of scoring opportunities, seemed like everyone enjoyed themselves. all in all a good night.
Quick summary.
We won 5-1 so we go through to the 2nd round where we'll probably meet the Nortel Braves who are a 3rd division team on June 30th.
Fuller Summary
Thomas took a corner and a brave stoop for a low header from Shaun Powell scored the first, but it may have been wiser to have tried a kick as the defender did, unfortunately making contact with Shaun's face as Shaun’s head made contact with the ball. Still, Shaun scored which makes the kick less painful somehow.
Charlie launched a long ball out of defence, Duncan chased it controlled it, ran with it and scored it. – He made it look easy and is looking like our most improved player this season.
2-0 at half time.
Cognos looked a little tired which may explain the 4-0-6 formation that we played for the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half.
Next week, it might be wiser to keep some sort of presence in midfield, even if we are strolling it.
Shaun P got his second and the teams third after a nice pass from Alberto left him with time and space to shoot.
Goal number 4 was funny.
Thomas took a corner, Shaun rose and headed it powerfully down towards goal, unfortunately I was in the way of it.
I ducked low to avoid it, but in fact the ball bounced off the top of my head and into the net.
The ref laughed, but still put me down as the scorer. Shaun's anguished cry of 'He stole my goal' was probably the loudest shout of the night.
In my defence, I will say that.
1. I was trying to get out of the way.
2. If I hadn't tried to get out of the way it would have hit my back and bounced back into play, so wouldn't have been a goal anyway.
For the 5th goal Jeremy Wallace sent a superb cross over from the right hand side which I poked home.
(I think when I kicked it, it was higher in the air than when Shaun headed the first, but I may be wrong.)
Anyway, a good game, a good win. 5 different players getting assists which was nice.
Next weeks opposition will be better, but if we keep improving at this rate we should do well.
