MARCH 16TH, 1999
AHHH!!!!!! IT WAS SOO MUCH FUN!!
The day before the show on the 15th, I packed all my bags, dug up all the cash I could find, and then sat in my room! It was 8am. DAMN!! I still had 13 more hours until my plane left. (what to do.. what to do..) I decided to clean up my house.. with all the energy and adrenaline that was pumping through me, I could get it done! Well... after cleaning the entire house, I still had hours to kill! So I drove around Phoenix for a number of hours, just blasting Motley Crue and thinking, "God I am a lucky bitch!!.." ha ha! In just a few hours I would be in Las Vegas with my two best Crue buds!! Well, after almost getting in 3 car accidents, I figured it would be a good idea to go home! The minutes ticked by slowly but I managed to make it to 9pm!
I went to Sky Harbor, and ran to my terminal and waited.. and waited and waited and waited... I was getting mad! My friends and I had planned to catch a local band that night and my flight was delayed! (How could this happen to me?!) So then I think, this is not the end of the world.. blah blah blah, at this point I am holding back tears. I can't stand to miss shows, local band or not..
So finally someone comes out and says, "We're having some troubles with the plane, there are some wires sticking out of the floor of the plane and we will only be delayed a short while longer." GREAT!! F*CKING GREAT!! Wires sticking out of a plane that is taking me to Vegas.. my great luck!
After another 30 minutes they say, "This plane has more problems then we thought it did, we'll just have to switch planes.." They talk as if they have planes in some hidden storage shed that no one knows about, and they can just snap their fingers and it will be ready for everyone. Another hour goes by and at this point I think I have missed the show. I get all bummed out as we finally sit on the plane, but things start to look up when the flight attendant gives me a free drink and doesn't ask for ID.. ;-D
Everyone in the cabin pretty much knew I was upset about the delayed flight, so when we landed, I stood up and yelled, "I'M FIRST- MOVE!!" I plowed my way through people and ran out of the plane and I see my friends, (AHHH!! IT WAS A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES!!) So we got to the car and drove to her place, she was getting ready and I said, "But we missed the show.." and she says, "No we didn't.. they never stop serving alcohol in this town so clubs don't close until people leave!" MY DREAM TOWN!! I MUST LIVE THERE SOMEDAY!
So anyway, we finally got to the club she was talking about and once again, I wasn't carded, I walked right in and was served.. (I love Las Vegas) The band we were seeing was awesome. They are an 80's cover band and play every monday night. We didn't end up leaving until 5am!
Once we finally hit the road, we went to a few places, and ended up back at my friends house around 8am. We showered and talked, looked through scrapbooks, etc. Then they decided to give me a tour of the strip. So we got in the car and we flipped the radio to KOMP.
They were giving away front row Mötley Crüe tix to "extreme fans" In order to get the tix, you really had to work for them. One guy even went so far as to drink the DJ's urine, (that DJ was later fired) But there was one that seemed impossible and indeed it was.. They sent out a Pam Anderson blow up sex doll into the sky, she was attached to red, blue, and purple balloons, (the colors of her bruises.. the DJ's words, not mine!!) To win the ticket you had to find this blow up doll, and somehow catch it and bring it to the station to claim your crue tickets. But, you could not shoot it or puncture it. (impossible and pretty dumb in my opinion!!) Anyway, throughout the day they played lots of Mötley Crüe!
After the tour of the strip it was about 1pm and we had reserved a room at the Hard Rock Hotel. Check in was at 3pm. (We decided to stay in the hotel cause Mötley Crüe was staying there and also because the concert was inside the Hard Rock!) So we went to the hotel and asked if we could check in early, the lady at the desk said, "Sure" and gave us our pass key.
Let me describe this hotel, IT'S F*CKIN UNREAL!! When you walk in, you have this circle and inside the circle is a huge casino!! The lamp shade's are drum cymbals, the elevators play music like Aerosmith, and in your room, you have pictures of rockers! ;-) It's very exciting.
We decided we would hang out in the hotel til showtime. One thing I didn't mention yet... We had made plans with Neil, Vince's son.. to meet up after the show and have some drinks. Well, we went down to the casino and played the Mötley slots, we were up quite a bit when I decided to look around the casino for any "familiar rocker faces," I didn't see any but Barbara and I decided to go up to the room and see if we had any messages. We knew that Neil would be checking in anytime..
We got to the room and there was a message, it was Neil. He gave us the name he was under, so we called up to his room, we only talked to him for a few minutes before he said he would come over now because he needed to go eat dinner with his grandparents before the show.
So, I ran downstairs and grabbed my friend, she cashed out and followed me up to our room. We waited for a few minutes and then she decided she would go get some ice. When she opened the door, he was standing in the hallway. We invited him in and we spent about 20 minutes talking about crue, concerts, music, his flight, and lots of other stuff, then he had to leave to go eat.
After he left we got ready for the show and as I was coming out of the bathroom I heard a
knock at the door, I opened it and it was Neil. He came in and we talked again and he said the opening band sucked so we stayed in the room until showtime. We went downstairs, and as soon as we walked in the door, the band walked on stage. We were in the very back of the concert hall and I WIGGED!! I totally flipped out, I could not believe they had started and I wasn't smacked against the stage! So I started pushing everyone out of my way just to get to the front and Neil was in front of me and I was like, "GO GO GO!!" and I was kind of pushing him along and there were a couple steps I didn't know about, he kinda stumbled down them and I did the same thing... HA HA!! But we didn't fall thank god! That would have been embarassing! I lost Neil in all the commotion and I eventually pushed my way through the second row to get to the other side next to my friends.
When I was finally able to take my place they had already finished Dr. Feelgood... DAMN!! But I got some pretty cool pictures. :) We rocked out through the whole show, but unfortunately, I always attract the drunk guys and there was one behind me that just would not stop bugging me! He was trying to have a conversation during Mötley Crüe!! One shove and he was on the floor.. (problem solved!!) HA HA!!
During the show when the guys would come to our side of the stage, I would wave my camera frantically to get their attention, once I had it I took pics of them looking right at me! It was great! The whole show was out of this world, but the Phoenix show was better considering I was front row center. But god, it was a blast!! So much fun!!
After the show we bought shirts and stuff then I saw Neil. I apologized for what had happened before the show (the shoving) and he just laughed and said it was okay, then he said he'd meet us back in our room in a few minutes, so we were walking through the casino and all of a sudden we spot the drummer for Slaughter. He's a good friend of Barbara's, so we talked for a few minutes and on our way back up to the room we seemed to run into so many people that they knew, the whole mood in the Hard Rock was really cool, it was a "MÖTLEY AÜRA!!" HEHE-- WE HAD SO MUCH FUN!!
