The Mission of the Steel Ribbon - Glory to Metal
The fundamental mission of the Steel Ribbon is to bring the faithful Heavy Metal Warriors together, by proclaiming the Power of Metal and promoting the Holy War through the ages.
In particular, the mission of the Steel Ribbon is twofold:
1) to promote the Heavy Metal spirit and tradition as exemplified by Manowar and other True Metal bands; this is Metal as Great Music - if you need an excuse to have a good time, this is it;
2) to spread the Sacred Faith of Metal to all the lands where Heavy Metal Warriors fight for True Metal as brothers; this is the metaphysical dimension to Metal.
There are two ways of looking at (and listening to) Metal. You can take it as Great Music (which it truly is), or you can think of it as a philosophy bridging the gap between different cultures and religions, bringing like-minded people together in the Realm of Metal. Metal spells Quality - whether you just want to get together with some friends to have fun and listen to some of the most deeply powerful and ingenious music ever made, or if you are willing to put on the armour of a Heavy Metal Warrior and join your brother warriors in the fight for the Sacred Kingdom of Steel, to keep Metal alive, proud and strong.
Metal embodies Freedom, Power, and Unity, and it is your right to enjoy the sound and the thrill that is the Metal Song.
The Steel Ribbon campaign for True Metal
The Steel Ribbon was launched at the end of last year when it occurred to me that there may be more than a few people who might appreciate a simple yet graphic way of stating that they are really truly heavily into Metal - and willing to support True Metal, as a musical genre with its own inimitable sound and style, and as a particular way of looking at things. This is for people who recognise quality even if they cannot define it precisely; for people who know what they like and want to have it. For all of you who are fed up with commercial mediocrity and bands that are quicker to sell out than the government is to steal your money.
This is not exclusively a Manowar page; but to me they are the quintessential heavy metal band, and for me their musical style is absolutely spot on. Manowar are not the oldest heavy metal band around, but through their actions and dedication throughout the Holy War, they have proven themselves more than worthy of being hailed as the Kings of Metal - Other bands play Manowar kill! And they kick ass!
Poser bands may try to usurp the title of the True Metal Kings, but they are the kind of bands that spend half their time sucking up to the press and the record companies and the other half trying to find out which particular trendy set to cater to, and the only thing you can call them is 'false metal whores', posers devoid of any notion of loyalty or integrity, and awfully ready to kiss ass.
There are - praise the gods - other bands that deserve to be called 'True Metal bands', some are old and established, some are young and up-and-coming, each with their own style and own ideas. That is the Spirit of Metal, the originality, the creativity, and the style - these are the qualities that set the True Metal bands apart from the commercial posers.
Many bands indeed have fought to keep Heavy Metal alive through the trials and tribulations of the past years to this time, when Manowar and other True Metal bands shine like stainless steel as Champions of the traditional Power and Glory of Heavy Metal, combatting the insiduous influences of corruption and commercialism, as well as facing down the hostile indifference for Heavy Metal in commercial media, supported all the way, regardless of any hardships, by the True Metal Warriors and Brothers of Metal; and all together denouncing the path of the false ones, who sold out and abandoned the True Path of Heavy Metal, capitulated before godless mediocrity, and spawned a litter of wimps and posers which to this day follow the ruinous path of false metal.
