INTERVIEW
WITH NICK WITH SONIA BENEZRA WITH NICK CARTER IN JANUARY, 1997
Sonia: In this group the Backstreet Boys, you
are the youngest but at home you are the oldest. What do you
prefer?
Nick: I like them both. Ya know when I go home I get a
totally different world but when I'm here it's totally opposite.
Sonia: In this group the Backstreet Boys, you are the youngest
but at home you are the oldest. What do you prefer?
Nick: I like them both. Ya know when I go home I get a
totally different world but when I'm here it's totally opposite.
Sonia: Do you like being the youngest member of this band?
Nick: Mmm-hun(nod's his head)
Sonia: Why?
Nick: Why?
Sonia: Yaa, what does that mean, being the youngest member of the
band? Do they tease you?
Nick: No, naa, I think when I was a lot younger in the band
they used to tease me a lot but now that I've gotten a little
bigger, they don't do that no more. But, ya know, I like being
the youngest member in the group cuz...truthfully, the attention.
(shyly smile away)
Sonia: You like the attention?
Nick: Yaa, I do, I like the attention.
Sonia: Is that because you're the oldest brother at home and
maybe you didn't getthat kind of attention?
Nick: Yaa, kinda, yaa, kinda.
Sonia: What would you say to people when they say to you 'you're
so lucky'? How would you respond to something like that?
Nick: I think, umm, hmmmm...I'm so lucky? Well, it's
something that I've been wanting to do ever since I've been
really young and ya know, it's something I've been working for,
for a long time and ya know, anybody can pursue their dreams no
matter what they do. They can achieve what they want to acheive.
Sonia: What don't we know about you that you would like people to
know?
Nick: Hm, I don't know, I think they find out a lot about
me.(giggles to himself) Um, I can be very sentimental. Yaa, I can
be. I do hold my feelings inside a lot. Umm, I don't like to show
my feelings. I don't like to cry. but, but...
Sonia: Do you let yourself cry in private?
Nick: Well, I, I, try to keep it in, sometimes I hear that's
bad but a...
Sonia: You think that's part of being a guy?>br>
Nick: I don't know, maybe, maybe
(giggles) but that's one thing.
Sonia: Do you think you're tough or you don't think you're tough?
Nick: I try to be.
Sonia: What does being tough mean to you?
Nick: Being tough? Being able to withstand things, ya know,
be strong. Well,I, I, guess holdn' in my feelings makes me feel
tough but you know, maybe it doesn't.
Sonia: What do you see when you look in the mirror in the
morning?
Nick: What do I see when I look in the mirror? I try not to
look in the mirror that much.But...just myself.
Sonia: What is the thing you like most about yourself?
Nick: Most about myself? The things I've acomplished in life.
