Hello,

As you have collected all these wonderful jazz lyrics I wondered if you provide with the guitar or piano tabs of Nina Simone's "My baby just cares for me" (or websites where I can find them). I know she plays it in B flat but there are a few tricky changes in the song that are hard to find out for me.

If you could help me out I would be very obliged!

Hi,
I love your site and visit often.  I sing with a band and am always looking for lyrics, especially to old jazz tunes.  I'm sure you get
things like this all the time, but I thought I'd make a small correction to the lyrics posted for P.S. I love you.  I believe it's "write to the Brown's...", "I burned a hole in the dining room table" and lastly, but most importantly (because it finishes the song of nicely), just after "And so I'll close"  it goes "but by the way, everybody's thinking of you" and then the last P.S. I love you.
Thanks for the wonderful resource!

Comments: Do you have the lyrics to a song with the (maybe) title of "I lost my mind in a wild romance"? Some of the lyrics go: If you could be so kind to help me find my mind I'd like to thank you in advance. Know this before we start, my soul's been torn apart I lost my mind in a wild romance. I'd appreciate finding the rest
of the lyrics! Thanks!

Hi Rabid;

Great page and I agree, what are we stealing from these artists when we learn the words and sing their songs. They should thank you for keeping their songs popular! I used to sing this song in the seventies and remember the words of the last verse, (basically, though they may be slightly different)

"Well, the two men got to fightin'
And when they pulled them off the ground
Old Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle
With a couple o' pieces gone"
Thanks and keep up the good work,

Hello!!!!

A long time ago, my dad, who served in WWII, taught me the lyrics to the first two verses of "In the Mood" (a favourite song of mine). The lyrics that Dad taught me began "Mr. What-ya-call-em Whatcha doing tonight?..." I've been DYING for the last 20 years TO find the rest of the lyrics, and those that the Andrew Sisters sing are different.

MANY THANKS FOR GIVING ME THOSE LYRICS!!!! I found them on your website tonight. They bring back huge memories for me - and I'm sure that my dad enjoyed the song as well when he was stationed in Britain.

Do you have any background on the history of this set of lyrics? Do you know who recorded them?

Many thanks from a fellow jazz and swing fan,

Hi Squirrel,

I'm looking for the lyrics to the song,  "Doodle Dee Doo"  Your pages were recommended, but I found nothing.  I think it might have been done by Peggy Lee.

Some guitarists play it as an instrumental.   I have only;
"Please sing to me, that Sweet Melody,
Doodle Dee Doo,  Doodle Dee Doo.
Ain't nothin' to it, just Doodle Dee Doo it,
Doodle Dee Doo, Doodle Dee Doo."

Help, Help, Help ! ! ! ! ! !

Also looking for the lyrics to "Blue in Green" and "When Sunny Gets Blue".
Thanx in advance.

When Sunny gets blue solved.  Blue in Green and sugar are still unsolved.

Hi Rabid Squirrel,

Love the pics, and the site is great.  I'm looking for the lyrics to the Fats Waller song "all that meat and no potatoes", also sung by Louis Armstrong on the "Satch plays Fats" tribute album.  The song was written in 1941, and (I think) was released on the "Fats Waller and his Rhythm" album.  Also...any comments on the appropriate interpretation of the lyrics??  The back of the Satch plays Fats album says meat'n'potatoes refers to "what Americans think make a good-looking dame"...my drunken workmates and I thought of many things, but is there a definitive interpretation?  Anyone?

Thanks ;)

Thanks for a great site. I've spent many hours looking through your HTML  pages. There's a lot of good stuff here.

Can I ask for your help in tracking down a lyric?

I've heard Ella and Sach'mo sing it and believe it's called "The Last  Laugh"; which I couldn't find listed under "Last" or "Laugh: or "Last Laugh,  The".

Forgive my unpardonable ignorance, but I have only dim recollections of the  lyrics sounding something like this..

********************************************

They all laughed at Christopher Columbus, when he said the world was round,
(Sach'mo)
They all laughed when Edison recorded sound.

They all laughed at ..???
They all laughed at ..???
They all laughed at Whitney and his cotton gin

They all laughed at Rokerfella Centre, now there fight'in to get in, (Ella)
They told Marconi,
the wireless was a phoney,
it the sound old dinh.

They laughed at me...wanting you, (Ella)
Said it would be hello goodbye,
But Oh, you came thorough,
Now they're eating humble pie

They all laughed at ...
They laughed at us and how,
But oh oh oh, whose got the laugh, (Ella and Sach'mo)
Te-he-he, yes thats the best laugh,
Ha-ha-ha, Whose has the last laugh now

********************************************

Any help at all or just confirmation of the song title would be greatly
appreciated.

Kind regards,
Terry

Hi Rapid Squirrel,

I came to your site in order to get ideas on building mine.  I want to move from Victoria Park to Tin Pan Alley.  I will first be building my site around the ancient game of Go.

As for lyrics:

I am glad to find my favorite lyrics from Billy Strayhorn's Lush Life even though there were some typos.  Upon reading through them they don't seem so profound.  I think it is rather the marriage of the lyrics with the composition that makes them work.  The verse to set the mood before the main melody is very effective.  I am only really familiar with Johnny Hartman's rendition with the John Coltrane quartet but I think the meaning of the words require the phrasing of the lines.

Show tunes lyrics like from Ira Gershwin or like from My Fair Lady's lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner in which the scale of the total work allows the song to fit into a larger context giving a deeper role for each individual song are my favorites.

I was suprised to find that the lyrics for Strange Fruit as sung by Billy Holliday are not in your collection as they are very powerful.

I wanted to find out if one of my favorite works performed by Sonny Rollins, "You Don't Know What Love Is", had lyrics.  Also I think "She's Funny that Way" has lyrics.  Both of these songs have melodies which match their titles so I am curious if the lyrics support them.  The latter that sort of shrug-the-shoulder's sigh thats seems would be very hard to convey with melody.  Strange how that melody succeeds in conveying that mood so wonderfully.

Nice job on the site.  See you around.

I have been madly searching for the words to that above mentioned song.  I found a Johnny Mercer site and posted a message and someone sent me back words, but it certainly wasn't the "Indian Summer" I was looking for.  The song starts out with those two words, and ends with it as well, if I remember right.  I used to have it on an old Tony Bennett cassette and cannot find it
for the life of me.

Any suggestions?  Your site is great!
