Actually, Jon, I (Paul D.) have all our email dating back to 23rd June 1995!
May '95 | Martin, Simon, Paul H. and I first met with the idea of forming a band in The Watering Hole. We were entirely a (nameless) covers band then, with an emphasis on Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, one keyboard player, three lead guitarists, and a drummer (Michael) who'd literally forgotten how to play after 20 years. |
---|---|
18th Sept. '95 | Michael left the band due to other commitments and was replaced within a month by "Dr. Rhythm". [Michael moved to Germany in April '96] |
9th Jan. '96 | The blow of Martin leaving for pastures new seemed as if it were going to be the end. But Simon was also independently making music with Jon and Paul H. under the name Things Under the Sink and the two bands merged. |
21st Mar. '96 | The band as we know it today did not really come into existence until Paul H., now playing bass, dropped out. Ian, who had stepped in before, took his place on a more permanent basis and surprised us all just how good a complete beginner can be. |
18th July '96 | The name Thin Air was adopted by the band. The name Thin Air had been invented by Jon and chosen by the band from a list of possible names. |
5th Nov. '96 | Our first gig at a Bonfire Night party. |
4th Sept. '97 | John, who was the only response to our advertisment for a drummer, joined us and instantly became irreplaceable |
27th Jan. '98 | Our first CD Room Six recorded. Five tracks in ten hours. Phew! |
9th Apr. '98 | Our fifth gig, our first public performance. (See Gigs). |
22nd Nov. '98 | Our second CD Car Shine recorded. This is our showcase demo. |
29th Oct. '98 | Barry seamlessly replaced Simon when Simon left for a bigger city. |
