Thin Air News

Janurary 2001: Our four track CD review by Rhythm & Booze ... and no we didn't pay them! ...

Way back in the spring we caught Thin Air at The Flapper & Firkin in Birmingham and I said that the band went through a number of differing styles to varying degrees of success. Here they are with their latest CD Star and to be honest the title track almost knocked me off my chair. I don't remember them playing anything as heavy as this. Star is an agressive rock track with an excellent chugging guitar riff running through it and the vocals are somewhat more savage than I remember also there are near psychedelic keyboards somewhere in the mix. It's a really strong number that grinds its way along but still with a strong melodic edge. After the total shock of the first number I had to check that I was playing the right CD and sure enough as the second song started up I realised it was the same band I saw awhile back. Just a Minute has the keyboards more to the forefront of the sound it's kind of a trippy psychedelic number that's a little whimsical for my liking but pleasant enough. Eyes combines both the stronger riffs and keyboard tinkerings, the song loops about with some sterling guitar work and decent vocal delivery. The final unlisted number [What Have You Done] is an indie number that could have come from the Brit pop era it's a catchy number that was recorded live in the studio. I have to admit to being very suprised by this CD the band sound more focused than I recall and even though they incorporate a number of different influences they sound cohesive.

October 2000: We have just recorded a new four track CD Star. See the CD page

Our very first review......

A Review of the Jan 13th Flapper gig by 'Rhythm & Booze' a Worcester base punk fanzine...

Thin Air were certainly the odd band out, and their music was nothing like the other two bands. Thin Air try to keep all their songs sounding different, and this must be applauded. In this set alone, there was an Irish influence (Marching Men), new wave punk (Love on the Internet), and the opening song sounded like Velvet Underground (Do You Believe?). Thin Air also have three different singers who each sing certain songs. They got a good response from the crowd and are good musicians .
