The WV2 extension indicates a Sonarc compressed WAV file. ?Why use WV2 files? Please see the bottom of this page. SONARCX.EXE (size=25K) is used to expand WV2s to WAVs. It's VERY easy to use. It doesn't write to the registry, or install in any way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE FOLLOWING IS ALL YOU NEED FOR WV2s: To expand ALL WV2s to WAVs, without having to type an MSDOS command: use WV2WAV.EXE (size=2K). Just click on it. (You also need SONARCX.EXE, and at least one WV2, for this to work.) =============================================================================== ALL OF WHAT FOLLOWS IS OPTIONAL, NOT REQUIRED: To expand a single WV2 to a WAV, without having to type an MSDOS command: use the small EXE (size=2K) with the same name as the WV2 you want to play. Just click on it. (You also need SONARCX.EXE, & the WV2, for this to work.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to use SONARCX.EXE with manual command line entry: 1st make sure SONARCX.EXE and the WV2 file are together 2nd at the MSDOS prompt; type "sonarcx *.wv2" (Or, instead or the "*", type the name of the WV2 you want to expand.) then press the "enter" key. =============================================================================== SONARCX.EXE comes from SONARC, the lossless audio file archiver. The URL for the full program (size=70K) is ftp://ftp.oce.nl/pub/Internet/audio+video/MIDI/PROGRAMS/MSDOS/snrc21.zip (or follow the Useful Links on the Song Listening Booth Home Page). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By the way.... In order to get a good idea of what a song REALLY sounds like: YOU NEED TO HEAR BOTH.... the mono Full-Length version.... as well as.... the stereo Near CD Quality excerpt version. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ?Why are you using the WV2 file format? I use it because.... when using the same 44.1Khz audio source: a mono 8bit 11Khz WAV file.... sounds better to me.... than a mono MP2 32K-BitRate file.... The 8bit 11Khz WAV file can then be reduced in size by Sonarc, and the WV2 can then be compared to the size of the 32K-BitRate MP2 file.... Even if the WV2 ends up being slightly larger than the MP2, the WAV sounds better to me.... so I prefer the WV2 over the 32K-BitRate MP2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _E_O_F_->
