All of this information comes from Billboard Magazine's
Special Double Issue: 1998 The Year In Music.
This bit of new comes from the actual Billboard Magazine
section. It is from Air Waves by Chuck Taylor. There was a tiny picture
of SG, nothing new.
"Triple-play: Savage Garden holds the distinction
of being the focus of three AirWaves columns in the past two years. At
the time of each one, the duo had taken enormous steps forward, first with
the breakthrough clamor of "I Want You", then with the No. 1 "Truly Madly
Deeply", and next with the second release of "To The Moon & Back."
Lead Darren Hayes looks forward to the next step, saying, "Spice
Girls and Hanson had incredible success, nearly to the point
of saturation, and yet the average person on the street doesn't know the
name Savage Garden. I'm kind of glad about that, because we're serious
about having a career." So that's how his Garden grows.
AND NOW... the REALLY cool stuff. From "1998 The Year in Music"!
The Critics' Poll was a section of critics' choices for songs, tours, videos, etc. And from my #1 main man again, Chuck Taylor, comes his vote for Best live performance of 1998. As if we didn't know that already!
"Best live performance: Savage Garden (Columbia). With elements of Madonna and Liza Minnelli amid his own liberating sense of live artistry, lead Darren Hayes renews the spectacle of pop music come to life."
And now for more cool Billboard information... "Truly Madly Deeply" was the most played track on US radio in the past *5 years*!! WOW! *go SG*
Savage Garden was mentioned several times in an article called "The Year in Charts" by Fred Bronson, however since I am going to post their chart results ANYWAY I am not going to type the one sentence they get in each section of the article. I will get the article scanned eventually so you read it if you want.
Well it is not surprising, but Savage Garden were mentioned
in "The Year in Australia" by Christine Eliezer. The article wasn't really
about them, more about what happened in the music scene, but I will post
the paragraph that mentions them. By the way, there was a color picture
of them on this page with the caption "Eight million sold: Savage Garden."
"MELBOURNE- In 1998, Savage Garden was the most played
Australian act on U.S. radio and sold 8 million copes of it's eponymously
titled debut album, while Natalie Imbruglia's "Left of Middle" shifted
5 million units globally. Notably, both acts were initially signed outside
Australia, like Crowded House before them. Nevertheless, such successes
have fueled local A&R activity and investment by Australia's record
companies."
(Ok I have some commentary... Didn't SG sign first in
Australia and then with Columbia later? Oh well... maybe Billboard needs
a better fact checker or maybe I do! LOL)
And now for the moment you all have been waiting for... the 1998 year ending charts!!! Ok here's how it's organized: the category (I am only listing categories SG was in, duh!) and under it, the top 10. The first # is the position, then the artist, and the # of charted singles/albums (depending on the category) in parenthesis. Savage Garden's places are in bold red print.

Chumbawamba, so why did they separate Savage Garden? And what makes Darren's

Why not be tied? Ok enough rambling...)
