blissed out

i first became interested in p.p. bliss about 25 years ago, after seeing his name on several songs in a hymnal. i collected some information on his music and his life at the time, which sat in a file folder until a couple years ago, when i realiezd that the world needed an extensive p.p. bliss website. so now it has one.

i have identifed over 300 hymns and songs written by p.p. bliss, and have collected sheet music for most of them. i had the idea for "blissed out" many years ago, but it didn't become "real" until 1998.

the photo on the cd cover above is me at the controls of a melodeon which belonged to p.p. bliss, at the gospel songwriter's museum in rome, pennsylvania. special thanks to the museum for help with collecting sheet music for many of the hard-to-find songs.

the songs on "blissed out" are "contemporary" versions of sixteen of p.p. bliss' hymns. the melodies are close to the way he wrote them, but some of the rhythms have been changed a bit here and there.

all of bliss' music is now in public domain, and i would be happy to allow worship leaders to adapt my arrangements of his songs for use in church worship...

my high tower

look and live

the half was never told

consecration

my refuge

light in the valley

wondrous love

knock, pilgrim, knock

passing away

welcome

where he leads we will follow
