“Mom, where are my gloves?” I screamed from upstairs. “What gloves?” she questioned. “Oh…nevermind…I found them!” I answered while throwing them into my suitcase that was already way over packed. Oooh…I need to call Gail. I reached over to my nightstand and picked up my black cordless phone and punched in the digits to Gail’s house. “Hello?” she answered on the other end. “Hey girl! Ya ready for the trip?? I’m sooo excited!” “Oh yeah, I’m still packing, though!” “Ditto. Hey, what time are we supposed to meet Vic and Claudi?” “Um, at 4, I think.” “Okay, well, I’ve got to go finish packing now.” “Me too, bye!” “C-ya!” I hung up the phone and returned to my suitcase.

Ugh! What did I do with my snow boots?? I bet Marc took them! “Marc!!!!” I screamed. “Yeah?” my little 6 year old brother asked while peeping into my room. “Do you have my snow boots?!” “Um…no, why??” he stuttered. “You liar, you’re wearing them right now!!! Give them back! I need them for my trip!” “No! Mom said I could borrow them!” Marc said teasingly. “Marc, “ I yelled, running after him down the hall, “give those back!” “Not a chance!” he screamed while running and wrapping his body around my mom’s leg. “Mom,” I pleaded, “tell Marc to give me my boots! I need them for the trip!” Finally, Marc took the boots off and handed them unwillingly to me. I took them upstairs to my room and threw them into my suitcase. I continued packing.

Swish! ‘Another basket! Woo-hoo!’ I thought to myself as I dribbled the basketball and glanced down at my watch. “Aww…man! 3:00 already?! Uh…I suppose I should go pack!” I whined aloud to myself. I threw the basketball into the garage and ran upstairs to start packing when the phone rang. “Hello?” I answered. “Hey girl! Wussup?” my good friend Gail exclaimed into the phone. “Hi Gail…I’m just getting started packing.” I sighed. “Getting started?! Girl, I’m already finished!” Gail retorted. “Well, whatever, I’ve got to get started, what did you call for?” “Oh, just wanted to tell ya that we’re meeting at Kelly’s house at 4.” “4:00?! Man, I’ve gotta go! Bye!” “Bye!” I ran over to my closet and threw a few pairs of jeans and some sweatshirts, of colleges that I was planning on attending, into my suitcase. I ran over to my vanity table and threw my foundation and lipstick and usual makeup into a bag. “Oh gosh, I’m gonna be late and they’re gonna leave me!” is all I could say as I hustled around my room trying to pack.

“Uh-huh…yep, I’m all packed” I said into the phone. “That’s great…me too! I’m sooo excited I can’t stand it!” Gail said back to me. “Well, I’m going to go now. We’re meeting at Kelly’s house at 4:00, right?” “Yep…I’ll see ya there. Bye!” “Bye!” I got up from the couch and stretched my legs. I walked down the hall into my bedroom. I looked at the picture of my ex-boyfriend, Greg, that was still on my dresser. Why did we have to break up? I just don’t understand…I had all these thoughts running through my mind. Tears started to well up in my eyes and I felt the lump growing bigger in my throat. No! I’m not going to cry over him…he’s not worth it, I thought to myself. I’m going to go to the ski lodge with my four best friends and I’m going to have fun and forget all about Greg! Maybe I’ll even meet some cute guys……

Alright, let’s see…suitcase, hair stuff, makeup, shoes, gloves, oooh….chapstick! I almost forgot! I ran back into my room and grabbed my pot of grape lip gloss. Okay, I’m ready. I walked out to my silver Lexus and popped open the trunk. I stuffed my luggages in there and kissed my parents goodbye. “Be good honey and please be careful up there around all that snow and ice,” my mom said with a worried expression. “Don’t worry Mom, it’s just for a weekend. Come on, the worst thing that could happen is that I fall in love!” I laughed. I got into my car, slammed the door shut and cranked up the heat. It was the beginning of January and I was freezing. I turned the radio on and flipped through the channels. Ugh! Nothing good on, I thought. I slid my favorite Backstreet Boys CD into my CD player and turned it to my favorite song, “All I Have To Give.” Oooh…my favorite part was coming up! “When you talk, does it seem like he’s not even listening to a word you say? That’s okay, baby…just tell me your problems and I’ll kiss them all away!!” I sang along happily with my dream man, Howie D. I sighed and pulled into Kelly’s driveway to see her bringing out her luggage. Gail and Vic were already there. I got out of the car, Backstreet Boys blasting in the background, “Hey! Where’s Claudi?” I questioned. “Hey! I’m glad you’re here. Claudi just called and said she’s on her way,” Kelly explained. Claudi lived 20 minutes away, though. “Oh well, hey, go ahead and put your stuff into my trunk. That way we’ll be ready when she gets here,” Kelly suggested.

Gail, Vic, and Theresa all piled their luggage and pillows into the trunk of my Toyota Camry just as Claudi pulled up. “Hey guys!” Claudi yelled as she hopped out of her Jeep Cherokee. “I called from my cell phone at the corner of your street,” she explained. “Okay, whatever, just throw your stuff in the trunk and let’s go. I don’t want the lodge to give our reservations away,” I said while climbing into the driver’s seat of my car. My four best friends piled into the car. Gail, my very best friend, sat up front with me. I slid our fave band’s CD into the car and we were all singing “Quit Playin’ Games” by the time I was out of my driveway. It was gonna be great!
