Nirvana is a Seattle based grunge/alternative/hard rock band that was formed in 1986 by Kurt and Krist, and were joined by Dave Grohl in 1989. Their first album, Bleach, was recorded for $606.17 and sold 35,000 copies. The following album, Nevermind, released in 1992, sold over 10 million copies worldwide, and launched Nirvana into the public eye. Smells Like Teen Spirit was hailed as the anthem for a generation. Nevermind was followed up by Incesticide(1992), an album of b-sides and rarities, and In Utero (1993). Both albums were major sucesses. Kurt Cobain ended the carrer of Nirvana in April 1994 when he took his own life with a shotgun. In November 1994, Geffen released the MTV Unplugged performance on CD, and in October 1996, From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah, a collection of rare live recordings was released.
Born February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen Washigton. Kurt was the primary writer of the group. He was also the vocalist and guitarist. Kurt joined with Krist Novoselic in `85, and formed the original lineup of Nirvana in December `87 with Aaron Burckhard on drums. Kurt smashed his first guitar in June 1987. Kurt married Courtney Love, of Hole, in February 1992. Francais Bean Cobain was born 6 months later. Kurt, deeply addicted to heroin, took his own life with a shotgun in early April, 1994.
Krist was born May 10,1965. Krist is the bassist of Nirvana, as well as a vocalist, and songwriter. Krist joined with Kurt in 1985 and they played in a couple of different bands before joining withAaron Burckhard in 1987 to form Nirvana. Krist played with Nirvana to the bitter end and now has his own group Sweet 75.
Born January 14, 1969, Dave joined up with Nirvana in October, 1990, replacing Chad Channing. Dave played with Nirvana on drums, and vocals. Dave now is the lead singer of another great band, The Foo Fighters.
