Well, today is August 20th and Maladjusted, Morrissey's new album, was released a week ago yesterday. I gave myself a week to listen to it before i would give a review of it. Well, now it's time. So this is my PERSONAL Opinion of the mozzer's new album.
Overview of the album: Well, i hopped into tower a few hours after it opened. The girl at the counter said i was cute running in. The first thing i noticed, is that..Moz finally put a flattering picture of himself on the cover! Its a beautiful picture of the man. I will say, that upon listening to the album, i was *not* blown away..or dazzled or anything. But, i still deem it a good album. The album is..very..very.."southpaw"ish to me. Remnents of Southpaw still linger in it. Especially on the third track," Ambitious Outsiders."
. Maladjusted~I like this song. It's a good opening song. Especially with the very obvious line "Anyways, do you want to hear a story or not?"
. Alma Matters~As i said before, this song stuck out a lot to me when i first heard it back in July. It definitley hops out as one of the 2 obvious singles, but this song is just..i dunno. Classic Morrissey. I love him finally coming out and saying, leave me alone. Its my life.
. Ambitious Outsiders~Now this song, to me, is the song that screams "Southpaw!" the most. With its haunting strings and the drums that dramatize the "and by the way thank you." This song is soooooooooo..dramatic.
. Trouble Loves Me~This is definitley one of my favorites on the album. Its the beautiful ballad. The whole "troubles loves me, walks beside me, to chide me.." reminds me of SOMETHING so much ..and i cant put my finger on it. The ending of the song reminds me of Live's beautiful "Turn my Head." Just the backing music and the way it swells. It's definitley a high point of the album. Er..actually, its his lowpoint..but you know what i mean :)
. Papa Jack~I haven't gotten close to this song yet. I cant make any comments on it, really.
. Ammunition~This song reminds me of Southpaw's later tracks as well. The rockbeat to it. Im not real close to it as well..but this is a song i like. I mean, i love the whole album so..im feeling a little foolish in this review :) Oh well..
. Wide to Receive~another one of my favorite. This song ..the lyrics are um..definitley one of his best. dark. sad..ya know..morrissey. I rilly love this song. A bit too much.
. Roy's Keen~This is the other obvious Single to me. This song pops out at me a lot. It was an instant favorite. I think i might have heard it that day at KROQ and thats why..but its a great pop song. "I am a satellite" The lyrics make me think, once again, or Southpaw..the boyracer to be exact :)
. He Cried ~I like this song. i cant think of anything else to say about it right now. I mean, i obviously like it.. i made a screen name from it :)
. Sorrow will come in the end~Okay, this song is DEFINITLEY very southpaw'ish. It's plain Spooky! the whip noises..the haunting strings..the fact that hes just talking. ::shiver:: towards the middle of the song it beings to remind me of a blur song too. Ya know..when it gets all circusy.
. Satan Rejected My Soul~This song reminds me of Daganhem Dave a lot. The way it starts out. A friend of mine that i recently turned onto morrissey love it. Its typical morrissey. A RILLY depressing song, that sounds all upbeat and happy. It has to be one of his darkest songs yet..but its one of the most upbeat sounding.
