Fear Of The dark

With a slight return to form, Fear Of The Dark marked the end of an era, it being the last album on which Bruce Dickinson was to appear. While in no way recapturing the sound of either Somewhere In Time or Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, but neither was it attempting to, FOTD is nonetheless a far better album than NPFTD, and a little more like what was required.

High point is without doubt Afraid To Shoot Strangers, a pointedly anti-war song released at the time of the Gulf War, although Wasting Love is also a classy, if somewhat more unusual song, with an almost bluesy influence, la Deep Purple

Eddie rating:7/10
