Powerslave

Powerslave saw a change in expectation from the rest of the world of Iron Maiden: this album was eagerly awaited like no other. Could they surpass Piece Of Mind? Whereas the previous 4 albums had seen the band establish themselves as the world's premier Metal band, now it was expected of them that they should release amasterful album. Could they deliver?

Does night follow day? Powerslave surpassed all expectations in such blistering form as to be truly breath-taking. Without doubt the heaviest Maiden album so far, it was also their most accomplished. From the  opening sprint of "Aces High", perhaps the nearest Maiden have come to that strange sub-genre, "Speed Metal", to the 13 minute epic, based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem Rime Of the Ancient Marriner, to the anti-arms race battering ramof a song, 2 Minutes to Midnight, and the breathtaking title track, the album grabs you by the thrpat from the beginning, and simply doesn't ket you go until the final, dying notes of Rime...

The album showed to the world why Iron Maiden were the most popular metal band on Earth, and one of the most popular bands of any genre.
