Ted Mechanic's
Deep Purple Pages
In 1983, while still in Rainbow, Roger recorded the
album The Mask, released
in June 1984. A rather "pop-ish" album, pretty much commercially oriented,
I'd say. But it's pretty cool, very well produced, and the music is a lot
of fun. And Roger *can* sing. I think it could have been a bigger success,
especially in the U.S., if there hadn't been the Purple reunion at almost
the same time of its release, so, of course, this event caught the major
attention then....

The Singles
|
|
Three singles were released from this LP (as far
as I know). The two you see here and Divided World
/ Dancing Again, a French 7" promo, which I unfortunately don't have
yet.
B-side of the German and the Dutch (pic left) The
Mask-single is (You're So) Remote; the
U.S. single has Don't Look Down on the
b-side. The 12" U.S. maxi holds two different mixes of
The Mask, 7:32 and 4:11. There's also
a promo maxi out there with The Mask as the
b-side. A-side on this one is Fake It.
The b-side of Getting Stranger (Holland, pic
right) is Dancin' Again. |
