Welcome Home

This section  is dedicated to my two favorite bands EVER, the legendary Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Both bands have same singer, songwriter and frontfigure King Diamond, the main reason for my big admiration. It all started back  in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1977, when Hank Shermann (guitarist) started the punk-band Brats.
The band put out a record and changed a few of its members. Yenz on vocals and Michael Denner on guitars. By now the and had changed from punk to a hard-rock-band. The band put out another record and toured all over Denmark. The band was criticized, mainly for Yenz's vocals, so the band went looking for another singer.
King Diamond was found in the band Black Rose, a band playing music inspired by Uriah Heep and Deep Purple, only a lot bloodier. King was facinated with the theatrical show on stage he saw at an Alice Cooper-show. He started wearing facepaint like Alice did, and came up with a show never seen before. A typical Black Rose-show would feature the splitting of a pig's heard filled with blood and animal enthralls or the slaughtering of a babydoll filled with blood. His obvious talents as a vocalist and the whole horror-thing would become the main part of the band.
Brats played some gigs in Denmark and Sweden, and recorded a demo, far heavier than the material they had done before, so they band wanted to change thier name. "Back to Hell" was considered, but the name "Merciful Fate" was chosen, only with a "y" instead. Mercyful Fate was born.
