Yuki Hsu seems likely to be the next big thing in music in Taiwan. With a young fresh image, and a huge amount of backing from her record company Rock Records, Yuki looks likely to step out of the crowd of new female singers and establish herself as a name in the music scene. Yuki has released 2 cd's (and 2 EP's), all of which have sold well (I still cannot find an original cd of her first album!). Yuki's music is light and fun, and the fast songs seem to have a definite J-Pop influence to them. Her image is similar, with her often seen in outfits that could best be described as "Superhero Outfits" (If you could see the New EP's cover you would understand 100%), and her light happy music stands out in the easy-listening world that is usually Taiwanese Pop music. The packaging of her and of her cd's also shows a definite J-Pop influence. Her second cd came with a pager holder with Yuki's symbol, a key chain and several autographed pictures! I have enjoyed her cd's much more than I thought I would, and I look forward to seeing her grow as an artist in the future. Yuki is definitely one to watch out for.
my response- I have also noticed that she really has a J-pop sound to her. Maybe thats why she is so popular? I think she is a wonderful voice and is SUPER sweet. Why do you think I have a shrine to my goddess Yuki Hsu eh? yea keep em coming.

-from some site that I cant remember ^^;
One afternoon last year, while listening to the radio on the bus, I suddenly heard what sounded like a schoolgirl singing to me. Or at least, that was how it felt at that time. The lyrics for that song wasn't anything special, neither did its melody or rhythm stand out. The young singer's voice was not exceptional but she did put in a lot of heart. The singer was Yuki Hsu and the song 'Ai shi yi chang zhong gan mao' (Love's A Bout of Flu).
In Taiwan, Yuki Hsu's popularity is skyrocketing and for a newcomer, that's some achievement. Over here, she's been labelled just another flash in the pan, another pretty face on the cover, you know the drill. A lot of people see her as just another idol singer using her looks rather than voice to push the sales of her albums.
Yuki Hsu's 'packaging' is that of a youthful, Spice Girl, and her songs reach out to the masses. But maybe it's also because of this that people tend to neglect the singing potential she has, and rather see her as just another gift-wrapped pop idol.
While Yuki Hsu’s voice is not better than most other singers, the way she sings her heart out in most of her songs give them an emotional intensity not seen in most numbers sung by idol singers. In her sentimental number 'Wo bu yao' (I Don't Want), her singing flat and unimpressionable but her unpretentious singing truly conveys what the song is about – a young girl 's confessions in the most simple and straightforward manner.
It's because the lyrics are touching that the songs move. It's because the singer immerses herself in the songs she sings, that she goes straight to the heart that make listening to Yuki Hsu's songs an experience.
In both her first and second albums, Yuki Hsu has preferred fast numbers -- a few of them being popular Korean dance tunes too. Her songs have been criticised for being too simple, with lyrics more conversational than prose. It's inevitable that there will be some who think her songs lack both depth or width but to Yuki Hsu, lyrics still come second to the way the songs are sung.
Besides having a knack for fast numbers, Yuki Hsu's also very much capable of injecting emotion into her singing. In her previous 'Fei Qi Lai' (Fly Away), 'Miao Miao Miao' (Quaint! Quaint! Quaint!), and 'Guai Shou' (Beast) in her latest album, 'Xiang Qian Chong' (Go Forward), she's managed them very well, even if the lyrics in numbers like '5.6.7.8. GOING' are ridiculous.
Basically Yuki Hsu's second album doesn't differ much from her first, and this is perhaps part of her record company's marketing strategy as well. Her latest album isn't smashing, but Yuki Hsu's performance is very refreshing -- a class act.
My response!!
