LITE 96 INTERVIEW
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11TH, 2001 8:40AM
CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA

...I missed the first part of this interview..but here's what I did catch..
AMANDA: The idea to me was just so compelling. I felt that it should be the conceptual thread, and it is, it's the conceptual thread that holds the record together, it runs through the rest of the album. So the rest of the songs that follow are sort of musical vignettes that fall under that umbrella, each one tells a little part of the picture.
DON: Right. Now, your first CD, when it came out, you had, like a bunch of songs off of there-
AMANDA: mhhmm
DON: You got great reviews
AMANDA: mhmm
DON: And uh Elton John said he loved you
AMANDA: He did
DON: And you know, you had great success. Did that hurt you a little bit do you think? Having that instant success?
AMANDA: No I don't think so
DON: No
AMANDA: I think it, because for me, it wasn't instant. You know, I think to the people witnessing it--
DON: Oh, sure
AMANDA: You know, people, listening to the record on the radio, and, certainly buying the records, the public perception is always that any success you have is instantaneous
ALL: Right, right
AMANDA: It doesn't matter if you've set it up over a year, and you've toured, you know--
JOANNE: Years-za  probably
AMANDA: Yeah, exactly. So for me, it was very, and that for me, coupled with the fact, you know, you mentioned Norway, I was out of the country for a lot of that. I was touring outside of Canada for a good deal of time
DON: Well you're in Norway a lot then, obviously! (laughter)
THE COACH: 60,000 discs you sold over there! That's great
ALL: Yeah, that's great (laughs)
AMANDA: (laughs) I have the plaque to prove it
DON: Yeah (laughs)
JOANNE: And Amanda, you are going on tour?
AMANDA: We are. I'm going to be back in Canada in mid-February. The tour dates will be announced, I think they're going to announce them the first week of January on my website.
DON: Yeah, and you're going to be coming to Calgary
AMANDA: Yes!
ALL: Yay
DON: Well you should come here in Febraury 'cause it's lovely here--
AMANDA: Yeah, that's what I hear!
DON: --Cause it's not cold at all
ALL: Yeah, yeah
AMANDA: Yeah, bikinis and palm trees I hear
THE COACH- What's your website?
AMANDA: That's what I hear, is that right?
ALL: Oh yeah
AMANDA: (laughs) The website is www dot.. me, dot amanda marshall dot com
JOANNE: That works
AMANDA: Yeah
DON: Okay, so this is the first single off your new cd, Everybody's Got A Story
AMANDA: It is
DON: So, what's the next one going to be?
AMANDA: I don't know? You know, we're kind of, we're taking hits on the website, and kids are coming up to me in the street, and and-
DON: Yeah, but that's for another reason
AMANDA: Yeah!(laughter)
THE COACH: They want change mostly
ALL: Yeah (laughter)
DON: Wash your windows
AMANDA: So, I don't know! I know that, a couple of them have reared their heads, um Double Agent is one, Sunday Morning After is one, Colleen
DON: What about Double Agent since we have it cued up?
JOANNE: How about that one?
AMANDA: Ok!
JOANNE: Should we play it?
AMANDA: Okay, good enough for me!
THE COACH: Well, we'll talk to Captain Kirk here first and get that all out of the way first
DON: Oh, you want to do that?
THE COACH: Yeah, lets do that (laughter)
----Traffic Report and commercials----
DON: So, uh, you've done, you've been on Letterman, the Rosie Show
AMANDA: I have
DON: Yeah, is that fun?
AMANDA: I've hung with Regis!
ALL: Yeah!
AMANDA: Kathy-Lee
JOANNE: Yeah, well
DON: uhhh
THE COACH: Did she want to cover any of your songs?
AMANDA: (Laughing) Actually she was very nice!
DON: Oh, sure. Was she
AMANDA: Very lovely (laughing)
JOANNE: Now, do you have fun making the videos?
AMANDA: I do! Yeah, mostly. This video in particular was fun cause it was something I hadn't done before, it was a lot of, uh, techno stuff
JOANNE: Really, a lot
AMANDA: Yeah, yeah, I'd done a lot of story based stuff, so this was fun. It was a lot of, it was a really long shoot, it was 40 hours, a lot of body make-up
JOANNE: ugh
AMANDA: Yeah, prosthetics, you know, prosthetic noses, eyelids, and it was really cool
DON: Oh, that's like our TV commercial too
AMANDA: There ya go! (laughing)
THE COACH: Oh boy, I'll tell you
DON: Now Coach has an issue here now with the video
JOANNE: You're going to bring this up?
DON: Oh, yeah
THE COACH: Well, you know, cause I'll tell you, um, on Everybody's Got A Story, I really wanted to see the video (amanda laughs). You say, and I quote, "you can see the bra underneath my shirt" (everyone breaks up laughing)
AMANDA: Right
THE COACH: I watched that thing, like from every angle, I paid close attention
DON: 32 times I think
THE COACH: (laughter) Yeah, and I did not see your bra underneath your shirt--
AMANDA: --You gotta--
THE COACH: So what's the deal?
AMANDA: You gotta pay attention! Look at the white tank top shots, I'm telling ya
THE COACH: The white tank top shots, okay
DON: Ok
JOANNE: That's good information
THE COACH: BUT, on the CD
JOANNE: Yes, there you go
THE COACH: Thank-you for that
(laughter)
DON: Yes, there it is
AMANDA: Aright
DON: Excellent
THE COACH: Yes, well done
AMANDA: You're very welcome. I do what I can
THE COACH: Well, it's, great
JOANNE: (laughter) Well you've made his day, his world, his life
DON: Yeah, he'll be watching that video another, 32 TIMES

JOANNE: Now we have got 3 CD's here infact to give away, thank-you very much Amanda
DON: These are signed, now, aren't they?
JOANNE: They are, now 245-lite
