RACE WEEK - MIAMI
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
September 15, 2003
Dear Racers and Fans,
Super Boat International’s National Championship race is to be held this weekend, September 21, 2003.
The following items are of concern to SBIP:
It is still unknown at this time the direction of the storm;
The unknown of high sea conditions as predicted, to ask for medical, patrol, and check point boats to go out on the racecourse could be unsafe;
Rip tide conditions are expected and if there is a need for medical response for a boat that has rolled over, this would make rescue difficult;
The boats have raced all year long acclimating points for this final race (the National Championship) and it would not be fair for the Northern boats not to participate because of the Hurricane;
The racers from the north would need to secure their property and family;
It would be difficult for the boats traveling from the north traversing over the highway on Thursday and then the return home could be hard;
After surveying the issues at hand from Hurricane Isabel, Super Boat International is canceling the September 21, 2003 race to be held in Miami, Florida. It is not possible to reschedule to another date because of the World Championship race being the week of November 2 - 9, 2003. For this reason, SBI will award points for Tuesday and Thursday race during the World Championship to go toward the National Championship finals (like was done in 2001 after 9/11 when the Bahamas race was canceled).
Our apologies for any inconvenience to racers, fans and supporters that this may have caused. With a hurricane being a category 4 or 5, has so many unknown factors to plan a race of this magnitude.
Respectfully,
John Carbonell, President Super Boat International Productions, Inc.

Nick's news - Thanks to Jovi and Juli @ Frack_me_Nickay
The Party Nick performrd at was INSANE!!!!! It was like the Steel Dragon Tribute concerts from the movie Rockstar. You had to go down this LONG....DARK road where for blocks and blocks you'd see nothing but cars parked on the side of the road. The entire city of Sarasota was there. The band playing was an 80's hair/cover band. They had the leather pants, long hair and tattoos. Even girls danicing on stage. It was CRAZY!!! My issue was that the ground was all rocks/sand and I was wearing heels......I was sinking all over the place.
Nick performed an Alice in Chains sons.....don't remember the name and a Journey song(fast). HE ROCKED OUT!!!!!!!! We were very worried about the crowd cause it was all metal heads and we didnt think they'd welcome him. I wouldnt say they were thrilled....but about 30 seconds into the first song I had guys all around me yelling "HE f**kin ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!". The crowd was LOVING IT!!!!!! He flashed the crowd the nipples!!! I missed it cause my head was in Kelly's boobs(lmao), but I did see them right before he went on when he showed them to Kelly. I wasnt paying attention and it caught me off guard.....all the sudden I look down and it was right in my face. RARRRRRR!!!!!!
He played drums on a song after that and when he said bye the crowd was going insane. They loved him. There were barely any fans there.....all metal heads.

I just got off the phone with Marc, he is driving back home right now.
Yesterday, I said it was pretty sure they would race, I found out they had alot of problems with the boat, they had to replace the outdrive 2 times, so they were quite busy rushing around to repair the boat.. Then this morning they ran before the race, and it went great.
The race was delayed for about 45 minutes due to a manatee on the course, but after that, the race did get off. They were racing for Outlaw. Marc and Bob had a few minor problems, but in the end they took FIRST PLACE. Nick was there to see it, adn he was very excited about it. SO way to go Marc and Bob. They will be racing together again at the next race in NC.
As of right now, Nick is still in Sarasota, but later tonight or in the morning he's driving down to Marathon for the week till he leaves for Illinois.

Nick/NCR Mention In February Issue Of "Hot Boat" Magazine
"Hot Boat" is a magazine dedicated to powerboats and powerboat racing. The February issue covers the World Finals in Key West last November - the title of the coverage article is "Nick of Time".
NCR gets several mentions, and there's a separate 1-column piece on NCR within the article, including quotes from Nick and a small pic of Nick with the NCR team and boat.
You'll probably have to go to a news/magazine stand to find it; most supermarket/grocery stores, and most bookstores, don't carry it.

'Nick Carter Racing' Boat Up For Sale
The world championship winning Nick Carter Racing boat, owned by none other than Nick Carter, is now up for sale. The Backstreet Boys star told JoJo from 102.7 KIIS-FM that now that his team has won the world championship in its first year of racing, he wants to get a boat in a higher class. In other words, he wants to race a boat that is bigger, faster, and more dangerous. Nick is even considering driving the boat. On a VH1 special, Nick even went as far as to challenge other celebrities by telling them to "Get a boat. See what ya got." Nick's current boat, which is up for sale, is a SuperVee described as having V-bottom, mono-hull 38-40', 9,000 pounds, twin 510 cid engines, naturally aspirated, using Brodix spec heads, but any type of Demon carburetor, with a 7600 RPM limit. Below is a pic of the boat with the 'For Sale' sign.

Backstreet Boy's Boat Wins Key West Race
A boat owned by Nick Carter -- a member of the Backstreet Boys who recently launched a solo recording career -- easily won the Super Vee class yesterday (Nov. 20) during the first of two races that comprise Florida's Key West Offshore World Championship. The second and final heats, for more than 80 entries in the American Power Boat Association-sanctioned event, are set for Saturday and Sunday.
Nick Carter Racing, piloted by Key West racers Lee Murray and Steve Oropeza, averaged 90.57 mph around the 68.25-mile course through Key West Harbor and surrounding waters off the lower Florida Keys. Carter, watching from the shore, was so excited with the win, he jumped into the water.
"Sure I jumped in," Carter said. "We won the national championship this year and we'll win Saturday to clinch the Worlds." John Tomlinson of North Miami and Hugh Fuller of Clearwater drove Drambuie On Ice to victory in the 13-boat Super Cat class. The Drambuie team is a favorite to win a second consecutive world title.
Earlier this month Carter released the Jive solo album "Now or Never," which debuted at No. 17 on The Billboard 200. Last month, lead single "Help Me" peaked at No. 36 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream airplay chart. He has a slate of tour dates set up in support of the album, kicking off Dec. 1 in Trenton, N.J.

Drambuie leading Super Cats
BY SUSAN COCKING, The Miami Herald
American Power Boat Association national champion Drambuie on Ice spanked a fleet of 13 boats in the Super Cat class in Wednesday's opener of the Key West World Championships.
Drambuie, driven by Hugh Fuller of Clearwater and throttled by John Tomlinson of North Miami, averaged nearly 96 mph over 15 laps to finish in 47 minutes 55 seconds, more than one minute ahead of second-place Airbourne.
Airbourne, driven by Randy Linebach of Washington Township, Mich., and throttled by Bob Morgan of Gravois Mills, Mo., squeaked in three seconds ahead of third-place Team Virgin to finish in 49:13.
Tomlinson said it was important for Drambuie to score a wide victory going into Sunday's final race because a time margin could end up determining the world champion.
Tomlinson and Fuller are aiming for a second straight Super Cat world championship. Morgan conceded they will be hard to catch.
National champion Nick Carter Racing handily won the four-boat Super Vee class, averaging 90.57 mph over 13 laps to finish in 43:49, 24 seconds ahead of Instigator. The boat is owned by singer Nick Carter of the Back Street Boys but driven and throttled by the Key West team of Lee Murray and Steve Oropeza.
Carter was so ecstatic at his team's victory that he leaped off the dock into the water at the Truman Annex Race Village.
''I'm a maniac when it comes to this boat and racing stuff,'' Carter said. ``Me and the sharks were celebrating together.''
Nick Carter Racing will try to clinch the world championship Saturday, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Backstreet Boy Carter's boat drops out of Keys race
MARATHON, Fla. - Backstreet Boy Nick Carter's Super Vee offshore raceboat broke down Sunday, forcing his team to drop out of the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix in the Florida Keys. The drive shaft broke on one of 40-foot Fountain powerboat's two engines during the third of 14 laps around a six-mile race course. "I was very disappointed and so was the crew," said Carter, 22, who owns the boat but is not driving it during the 2002 American Power Boat Association (APBA) racing season. "Things like this do happen. That's racing." Media Master, owned and throttled by Greg Quirk of Holbrook, N.Y. , won the Super Vee class. Bill Mauff, of East Seatuket, N.Y., in WHM Motorsports won the Super Cat. Drambuie On Ice, driven by Hugh Fuller of Clearwater, came in second. The event, which attracted 76 boats that race Saturday and Sunday, marked the return of offshore powerboat racing for the Middle Keys community after a nine-year absence. The race features a one-mile leg paralleling the old Seven Mile Bridge in the Keys. __________________________________________________________________

2002 Backstreet Boy's Offshore Powerboat Racing Team Set for Hometown Debut in the Florida Keys, May 17-19
MARATHON, Fla.--(BW SportsWire)--May 4, 2002--Nick Carter, one of the acclaimed Backstreet Boys' pop music group, loves offshore powerboat racing. His father, Bob Carter, is even more enamored of the sport. Between them, the two residents of Marathon, in the Florida Keys, have established the Nick Carter Racing Team and are scheduled to have their first hometown start Friday, May 17, through Sunday, May 19, at the APBA Marathon Offshore Grand Prix, the second race of the American Power Boat Association's 2002 offshore racing season. The Carter team, won the Super Vee class at the circuit's first race, April 28 in Daytona Beach. The boat is driven by Steve Oropeza and throttled by Lee Murray, both of Key West, Fla. Bob Carter was scheduled to drive, but says a back injury is keeping him on shore. Nick Carter is contemplating the purchase of a second, smaller boat to personally race in while he learns the intricacies of offshore competition before moving up to a larger boat. Meanwhile his team's focus is squarely aimed at the Marathon event. "This race will be 100 percent visible from the old Seven-Mile Bridge where most of the spectators will be," race producer Lee Mills said. Offshore racing is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with races beginning at noon and 2 p.m. both days. Race headquarters is at Hawk's Cay Resort. A one-day race viewing pass on the bridge costs $15; a two-day ticket is $25. A combination pass for bridge viewing and access to the race village costs $40 a person. A special VIP viewing area providing lunch buffet and race poster costs $100 for one day and $150 for both days. "Nick Carter and his brother Aaron are planning to spend both race days in the VIP area," Mills said. APBA Offshore has teamed with Ticketmaster to provide convenient venues to purchase admissions to the Marathon event. Simply call Ticketmaster or go to www.ticketmaster.com and search for "Marathon OS Grand Prix." DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter is once again at the top of the charts - this time in high-speed powerboat racing. The 22-year-old pop star on Sunday watched his team, Nick Carter Racing, win the first race of this year's American Power Boat Association Offshore Tour. The event marked the debut of Carter's 40-foot, 130-mph Super Vee-class boat, which had never been tested in open-water competition. "I didn't expect we would do so well," Carter said. "I would have been happy just to place." Carter started the team in February so his father, Bob, could pilot the boat in races. Bob Carter let Key West chiropractor Steve Oropeza take the helm Sunday while fellow Key West resident Lee Murray handled the throttles. Nick Carter also announced that he was "seriously thinking" about buying another race boat and running it himself. "I've really gotten into the sport. I'll start off in one of the smaller classes, learn all I can," Nick Carter said. The Carter family lives in the Florida Keys. They were introduced to high-speed offshore powerboat racing during last November's Offshore World Championships in Key West. The Offshore Tour makes its next stop in Carter's hometown of Marathon on May 17-19. Backstreet Boy And His Dad Prepare For APBA Circuit Including Offshore Powerboat Races in Florida Keys
MARATHON, FL—Nick Carter, teen heartthrob of pop music’s Backstreet Boys, is getting into motorsports, but unlike several other celebrities, it will be on water, not on land. Carter, 22, has purchased a 43-foot offshore raceboat, with twin 750 hp engines and plans to campaign the 130-mph-boat in the American Power Boat Association’s (APBA) 2002 circuit with races in the United States and Canada. Nick won’t actually be racing in APBA’s Super Vee Class. His father, Bob Carter, will pilot the boat. Nick, however, is a competent boat driver and may be in the boat from time to time when his recording and appearances schedules permit. "One of the main reasons I’m getting into this is my father," said Nick Carter during a news conference Feb. 14 at the Miami International Boat Show. "It’s a dream come true for him." The Carter family, who live in the Florida Keys, was introduced to high-speed off-shore powerboat racing during the Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., last November. Following a planned April 28th debut in Daytona Beach, Fla., Nick Carter Racing will make its hometown entrée at the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix on Friday through Sunday, May 17-19. "It’s going to be a little difficult getting respect because I’m an entertainer," he said. "But we’re going out there to win, not to show off." Carter said he has recruited Lee Murray, an experienced Key West racer, noted for his aggressive racing tactics, to be the boat’s throttleman. "I wanted to put together a very competitive team," Carter said. "You have to have some people with cojones." Lee Mills, producer of the Florida Keys offshore powerboat races, is ecstatic with the Carters’ involvement in the sport. "We’re thrilled to have the Carter family as part of the APBA Pro Circuit," he said. We’re particularly happy that they will compete with their own boat, in their own hometown during the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix." Mills anticipates the APBA Marathon event, which is to feature racing on Saturday and Sunday, will attract 85 to 100 boats. Prime viewing area will be from the old Seven Mile Bridge, where spectators should be able to view the entire five-mile course in a venue Mills has dubbed "Stadium-Style Racing." Race headquarters are to be situated at Hawk’s Cay Resort with the wet pits set for Faro Blanco Marine Resort.
More APBA Marathon race information is available at (305) 293-5115. Accommo-dation information is available at 1-800-FLA-KEYS. _________________________________

Marathon Offshore Grand Prix Added to APBA Offshore Circuit; To Feature ‘Stadium Style’ Powerboat Racing
MIAMI, Feb. 14—A new race, the Marathon (Florida Keys) Grand Prix has been added to the American Power Boat Association’s (APBA) Offshore Circuit for 2002 and the Nick Carter Racing Team is slated make its hometown debut there Friday, May 17, through Sunday, May 19, offshore racing officials announced Thursday at a news conference at the Miami International Boat Show. Nick Carter, an original member of pop music’s Backstreet Boys, is sponsoring the boat, which is to be driven by father Bob Carter throughout the 2002 APBA Offshore Pro Circuit in the U.S. and Canada. The Carter boat is highly competitive--a proven hull--having set a kilo speed record of more than 130 mph when it was racing under the name Pier 57. "The Marathon race will mark the renewal of a developing offshore racing tradition," said Lee Mills, the event’s producer. "Racing debuted in Marathon in 1986, but about 10 years ago, the circuit took Marathon off its list. "Veteran offshore racers will recall Marathon with great fondness because the water and weather conditions are usually superb and because the town itself supported races so actively," Mills added. The Carter family makes it's home in Marathon. Mills, who also produces the annual World Championships held in Key West, Fla., in November, said the course is to utilize ‘Stadium Style’ racing — an innovative format designed to give spectators a good view of the races. "The Marathon Grand Prix will run adjacent to the old Seven Mile Bridge which will be packed with spectators able to see the entire race." Mills said. "Media and medical helicopters that accompany the race, will be virtually on eye-level with the viewers on the bridge, making a truly dramatic scene." There are to be two full days of racing, Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19 and a round of parties and celebrations starting Friday, May 17. Race headquarters are to be situated at Hawk’s Cay Resort, with wet pits set for Faro Blanco Marine Resort, Mills said. Dry pits are to be established Florida Keys Marathon Airport. The 2002 Marathon Offshore Grand Prix races are to coincide with the 20th anniversary of a massive project that rebuilt 37 of the 43 bridges that help comprise the Florida Keys Overseas Highway, including the Seven Mile Bridge linking Marathon with the Lower Keys and Key West. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (Reuters) - Backstreet Boy Nick Carter said on Thursday he has bought a 43-foot offshore racing boat and will enter it in the American Power Boat Association's 2002 circuit with races in the United States and Canada. But the pop music heartthrob, 22, will not actually race in the vessel, which has two 750 horsepower engines. His father, Bob Carter, will pilot the boat, which is capable of speeds up to 130 mph, in the APBA's Super Vee class competition, he said. "One of the main reasons I am getting into this is my father," Nick Carter told a news conference at the Miami International Boat Show in Miami Beach. "It's a dream come true for him." The Carter family, which lives in the Florida Keys, was introduced to high-speed offshore powerboat racing during November's Offshore World Championships in Key West. Following an April 28 debut in Daytona Beach, Florida, Nick Carter Racing will make its first hometown appearance at the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix May 17-19. "It's going to be a little difficult getting respect, because I am an entertainer," he said. "But we're going out there to win, not just to show off. Carter said he has recruited Lee Murray, an experienced Key West racer regarded for aggressive racing tactics, to be the boat's throttleman. "I wanted to put together a very competitive team," he said. "You need to have some people with cojones."
