Helloooo everybody! Hope all you Americans had a Happy Thanksgiving
- I had
tons of fun! The party really got started after my uncle and his fiance
(who
our whole family can't stand) left! Get this, she's going to make her
wedding
dress out of her grandmother's old curtains, and it's going to be gold
and
sparkly. For a wedding dress! I'll take pictures and post it on the
SGer's
website so you all can see Sandra's creation! Anyway, I spent the last
3 days
of Thanksgiving sick and am finally getting over it. Jumping from subject
to
subject here, did anyone see the KISS on "X-Files" on Sunday?? Wowie!
Sooooo
sweet! They are so in love!

**Well! Looks as though I'm not the only one who's premature in wondering
what the next single should be! "Affirmation" will be released in Australia
in January (thanks to [email protected] for the info!) and
the rest
of the world will get...<insert drumroll here> "Crash and Burn"!!
Unfortunately, the consequences of Oz having one single and the rest
of the
world another will undoubtedly be one having "I Don't Care" as a B-side
and
the other having "My World Is Yours" (still can't figure out if it's
"My
World IS Yours" or "My World IT'S Yours") as another, meaning we'll
all have
to import the other single to get the B-side! Those record companies
sure
know how to milk us dry!
**Just a repost, if any of you are in and around Los Angeles and would
like
to meet me and a few other subscribers as well as see Darren in person,
our
dear Dazza is filming a spot for the VH1 show "The List" on Saturday,
December 11th in Hollywood at 12 noon. If you live around here and
would like
to join us in the audience of the show, email me for the info! Also,
we need
to know if you'll be joining us by WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8th (I think
it's the
8th!). Thanks! A quick extra note here in case you're wondering...the
host is
Rebecca Gayheart (best known as the Noxzema Girl, I think!) and appearing
with Darren will be John Henson (used to host the E! show, "Talk Soup")
and
Jaime Pressley (plays Audrey on the new WB show that I LOVE because
it's like
the only intelligent thing they have on that channel! The show, by
the way,
is "Jack and Jill"). Also appearing will be the winner of whoever wins
the
VH1 contest to be a panelist.
**Billboard stats! "I Knew I Loved You" is at #6 this week and the greatest
gainer in airplay again, and the album fell way back to #26.
I'm pleased to announce the return of our Billboard Man, Eric
([email protected]). He knows everything there is to know about Billboard,
and since he works in a record store he sees firsthand what's going
on in the
general public, and he told me that "Affirmation" sales are already
picking
up and that pop albums generate a lot of sales around Christmastime
and he's
given his Billboard Man theory that it won't fall back much longer.
Glad to
have you back, Eric!
**"I Knew I Loved You" has hit the top ten on the Rick Dees Weekly Top
40!
The song is at #10 and still rising! Go Savage Garden!
**Savage Garden is back in the VH1 Top Ten Countdown! "I Knew I Loved
You"
entered last week at #7, and we'll see tomorrow (or tonight since most
of you
get the SGer on Fridays!) how well it does.
**You can catch Darren singing with Rosie O'Donnell and other recording
stars
on Rosie's Christmas special that I presume is promoting her CD, which
as you
all know by now, Darren did a cover of George Michael's "Last Christmas".
Other stars appearing with him are Gloria Estefan, Trisha Yearwood,
Marc
Anthony (sorry if you're a fan of him, but I can't STAND this guy!),
and
Celine Dion. The show airs this Friday at 8pm PST on ABC.
**Savage Garden will appear on "The Donny and Marie Show" on December 21st!

Dear listers,
Hello!
"I don't post often simply because I don't have the time to. I'm
21; a
senior at the University of Tampa. I usually have 2 things on my mind,
worrying about
graduating on time and Savage Garden. Unfortunately, the former
usually
takes precedence, even though the latter seems to occupy more time!
BUT I've
managed to come up with a little holiday project that I'm willing to
find
time to work with. BUT I need all members on this list to HELP
out! If
you're on the BBS, you know of all the nonsense going on, I know I
was
brought up
in a post about projects and charities and so forth, but I'll be damned
if I
will let it stop me after the weeks of work I've put in! And so in
the face of
adversity, We've got a Charity project going up tonight (Thanksgiving,
11/25)
at midnight. We have from now until Christmas to donate our little
hearts
out. I ask only ONE thing. That you do this with the same
mentality that
you would if it was NON SG-related. Donate because its the holidays,
because
YOU feel its important. NOT to get D&D's attention. I'm backed
up by several
individuals and we're all working for that same purpose... its nice
to let the
guys know we take their words seriously. We're taking the "don't
send
Christmas cards or gifts" to heart. If you'd like more info, check
out the
link belowAFTER midnight. Pass this along to any other lists
and above all,
have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Note from moi! here's the web addy for Julie's project!

Also, can I just say that I have major problems with the BBS but won't
bring
it up here. I'd rather vent in private email rather than risk having
the
so-called "cult leaders" of the board spread horrible awful things
on the
board about me where Leonie and Darren both read them and have them
hate me
forever. Or I can just do what I usually do and say it anyway because
I
really don't care what everyone else thinks. What a dilemma. :D ~Lauren

Hey Lauren.
I REALLY missed the SGer, it was something to look foward to on Thurs.
So I have a review for Affirmation. Most reviews said that the album
wouldn't
be better than the debut, but the debut album premired at #54 on the
Billboard charts, when Affirmation premired at #6. There is proof that
Affirmation is better than the first album, Savage Garden. I really
love
Affirmation. 2BAACM and Affirmation are my favorite songs. The album
is
definantly an album destine for #1. It will be the first #1 of Y2K!!!
The
album is a 90's hit.

*******************
Hi, Lauren!
Well, all your comments about "Affirmation" and
how you were so glad that
they WEREN'T suicidal, angry rockers or teenage boys who can't sing
sounded
almost parallel to MY experiences, thoughts, and opinions. So.....I
had to
send a (really, really long) comment (I'M BACK!!!)!
I'm a very selfish fan, really. I take an
incredible amount of pleasure
in being the only one obsessed with Savage Garden, as opposed to half
of my
school's girl population being obsessed with a certain boyband.
I'm sure you
know who I mean. Savage Garden has become part of my personal
identity (I'm
not known as the girl who loves Savage Garden, but INSIDE, it's all
part of
who I am and my own uniqueness). I love it that if I want to
get tickets to
a concert in America, I won't have to worry about the show selling
out in 15
minutes! I almost want it to stay just the way it is as far as
their fame
goes, but at the same time I would be very happy for their sake if
they
became the hottest band in America.
I'd love it if Americans could pull away from all
the fame-seeking
artists who have people write their songs for them, songs without any
depth
or meaning. I think Darren was accurate when he described many
sophmore
albums as a response to fame, and I'm very touched that Savage Garden
decided
to pull away from that and write music that actually meant something
to your
average civilian. Maybe part of the reason I love them so much
is just
because they're such nice, thoughtful guys. Actually, I KNOW
that's part of
the reason!
I make it a point to tell people who I've revealed
my obsession to that
my "Savage" love has nothing to do with appearances. They could
be the
ugliest guys in the world, and I'd still love them just as much.
The fact
that they're both extremely attractive is just icing on the cake.
It's like
buying a CD single for a song you absolutely love, and then discover
that the
b-side is just as good. You would have bought the single even
if the b-side
wasn't that great, because you love the single so much. Having
a great
b-side is just a bonus.
Gosh, this is getting long. But I have to
say something about my
response to "Affirmation." (by the way, I agree with you about "Hold
Me"
being the next single. Either that, or "Crash and Burn.")
When I first
bought the CD I turned all the lights out and listened to it start
to finish
lying in the comfort of my bedroom. I loved some of them right
off the bat,
but there were about five that I was feeling unsure of. I didn't
worry,
though, because my reaction to the first album was almost exactly the
same,
and the debut grew on me like the ivy that covers our hillside.
Now, after
listening almost every single day since November 9th, I've fallen in
love
with EVERYTHING! There's not a song on there I don't love.
It just took me
a little time to realize it.
"Affirmation" is definitely more sophisticated and
grown up than the
debut, and I think it far surpasses "Savage Garden." (even though I
love it a
whole bunch, too) Maybe that's just because I'VE grown up a lot
since 8th
grade when I got "Savage Garden" for Christmas, so I can relate to
this one
better. It's not as savage-sounding, but all the passion that
we've come to
love them for is there, just quieter, and in its own way, even more
intense
because it's not all-out-there, in-your- face emotion. I was
a little
worried when Darren said "Affirmation" sounded a lot like the "Ray
of Light"
album (now THERE'S an example of electronics!), but my fears were most
definitely unfounded. I could go on forever about how much I
love it and
what it's done for me, but I'd like to end on this note instead.
"Affirmation" came at an especially good time for
me, because right now,
in my own way, I'm going through an experience similar to Darren's
time in
New York. Psychologists like to call it self-discovery, but if
this is what
self-discovery is, it's not nearly all it's played up to be.
Really, it's
just a fancy way of saying that inside you're tearing yourself to pieces,
trying to analyze each one, make some sense out of it, and then doing
your
best to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together to see if you can
find out
who you are. It may sound cheesy or cliche, but listening to
"Affirmation"
helps me realize I'm not alone (I can almost hear "Crash and Burn"
playing as
I write this), and the album is so ironically uplifting in all its
bittersweetness and blunt reality that I can hear the lyrics and say,
"Yeah,
you know, life's really not so bad. It's going to be okay."
Phew! Take a breath now! Sorry, I didn't
intend to write so much, but I
guess I just had a lot to say. It seems I've missed sharing my
opinions as
much as you have, even if before now, I wasn't permitted to share them
with
everyone. Well, perhaps I should go now before I end up writing
a book! I'm
glad you're back!

Hi Lauren,
Sorry this is so late, but could you mention in your next newsletter
that on
the US National Airplay Chart this week, IKILY is # 3 on the AC chart
and # 5
on the POP chart. This is the chart that Rick Dee's and Casey
Kasem uses to
do their countdown with and it is what the radio stations use to determine
whether a song is a hit or not. Casey is a week behind and Rick
is two weeks
behind, so you will see IKILY jump to #5 next weekend for Casey and
the
following weekend for Rick.
In light of this great success by the guys, we are trying to do a grassroots
requesting campaign to try to get the guys to # 1. We would like
everyone to
try to take a few moments every day to call their local stations or
send them
emails asking them to play IKILY. If we can keep the requests
up there, it
will likely keep moving ahead on the charts and maybe we can get them
there
within a couple of weeks. When you send emails to your local
stations, make
sure you mention the DJ's name or tell them you heard them play IKILY
a few
minutes ago and wanted to thank them. Something that personalizes
it,
because we want them to know it is from a local listener. If
you want to use
the Request site, at least make the messages sound like you are from
that
area, please don't tell them that you are not from their listening
area.
That will be counter productive and won't help the guys at all.
Be smart
with the emails and I'm sure we can help get them to #1.
Thanks Lauren. It's so nice to have your newsletter back!
